so I am coming up to 18 and as CBT's are only valid for 2 years I need to renew.

I have some extra cash kicking around and thinking about A1.

whats peoples views or advice do I do a1 or just renew cbt?

Attempting to reach 30/32mph in 2nd gear on a 125cc is far from easy and if anything is making life hard for no reason, I said to myself before I attempted the test "If I fail based on speed, I'll save up and attempt the A2", after failing my 1st attempt I got all the way to the hazard avoidance on my 2nd and failed based on not being able to get up to speed... so now I'm waiting and saving.

IMO, if you don't pass the test within 2-3 attempts it's really not worth paying anymore, it becomes addictive to think "£15.50" and that's it.

Worth a pop if you've got £15.50 you can afford to loose in the event you don't pass.

Although after attempting the test twice I'd say no amount of video watching or car park practice will prepare you for how tight the bend and the continuous roll on of throttle and counter steering required to reach the speed requirement, after failing the 2nd time around on the avoidance I knew that I was better of getting on something with more power and making life easier.

renew the cbt..then wait and do A2,,, I really cant see the point of the A1 unless you intend to stay on a 125 for a long time and need/want to use motorways or carry a pillion ( and neither is fun on a 125 )

Doing the A1 is good experience and great if you pass first time.Or at least the mod2 first time, you can afford a mod1 slip up.

Otherwise it will cost you more than the cbt.

Tbh the mod 2 is easier than mod 1 imo.Mod 1 you really do need a practice session which you wont get going it alone.

I passed by the skin of my teeth first time with no practice.Nerves and unfamiliarity didn't help and I had to do the swerve and emergency stop twice.

Its worth a go and at least when you do the A2 you'll feel more comfortable because you know what to expect.

Unless you need to carry a pillion or use a motorway ( bit dicey on a 125 imv) as others have said wait till you can do your A2.

Can't see any point in paying that money to the gov just to ride a 125 without L's.
