oldie59 Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 positive signs of a well maintained bike ...... you need to check chain tension and lube it weekly or even more often if used in lots of bad weather I lube it after every ride because my cbt instructor said its best too and i knew i needed to get a new chain soon but not now But do you also check the chains tension on a regular basis, or was it just flapping around and that was the reason it came off? You got off lightly with just the chainguard damage the chain could have caused far more, including locking the rear wheel and you ending up in hospital because of it. The chain could also have snapped and ripped into your leg, not nice! Quote

eastanglianbiker Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 learn to check chain tension at least once a week or more if you are doing lots of miles and every time you lube it check tension Quote
Joeman Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 Get a chain tension stick!A bit of wood cut to a length that if you can fit it under the longest part of your chain, you know its too loose. Quote
