Matt Strange Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 I had this happen to me twice today on the forum ride out. Both times after switching my engine off for a minute or two whilst waiting for the tail rider to catch up when I was marking a turn-off. I'd fire the bike up, go to pull away and it would immediately splutter dead. It was fine again once I've fired it up for a 2nd time though.I'm thinking the bike is either losing some fuel pressure while I'm stopped for that moment or their may not be enough heat protection around my fuel pipes, causing fuel to vaporise a bit in the lines.Anyhow, I'll have a look see and try to find out what's going on. I have a factory manual so i'm going to have a look at the pressure regulator in the pump & see how hot the fuel line gets from the pump to the injectors.P.S. sorry to KD 79 for holding up the tail-end once or twice! Tango Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Do you kill-switch it or full ignition off? If it's kill switch, then you could be right about loss of pressure in the fuel line as it may not be doing the pump prime that it does when you turn the ignition on...... Quote
Matt Strange Posted May 4, 2015 Author Posted May 4, 2015 It primes the pump from both key and kill switch. In theory that should stop this from happening shouldn't it.I'll have to have a proper look over the next day or so. I know the pump electrical connections etc are good because I've had the tank up when balancing the throttles and servicing the bike. I haven't ridden it in this slightly warmer weather though, until today.I can't remember seeing much, if any, extra heat protection around the fuel lines. Quote
Matt Strange Posted May 4, 2015 Author Posted May 4, 2015 Oh, I have fiddled with the tps, secondary butterflies and some other bits recently. I'll have to be methodical and recheck everything, just in case something has come loose or gone out of spec for some reason. Probably, knowing me! I possess a schrader valve fuel pressure gauge, so hopefully this will make things a bit easier! Quote
Matt Strange Posted May 8, 2015 Author Posted May 8, 2015 I haf a brief look this morning and the Fuel pressure is a bit low, hoping it's not the regulator as it's integral with the pump body. System pressure is supposed to be 43psi, checked at 38 :/ Quote
Matt Strange Posted May 9, 2015 Author Posted May 9, 2015 Took the sender/pump out from the bottom of the tank today & had a proper look at it. The gauze filter and the channels inside the pump housing were clogged with "jelly fuel", much like the consistency of soggy white rice. Also some bits of what looked like black rubber, perhaps from the old cap seal? Back together and the test gauge is reading smack on 43psi now , hopefully problem solved Quote
Matt Strange Posted May 10, 2015 Author Posted May 10, 2015 It appears to be fine now, took the bike over Swindon Yamaha to test out the new MT-09 Tracer.System pressure is critical to FI systems, a few pounds under can casue all manner of problems. I'd rather see a few over, not too excessive as you get issues like injectors leaking in-between opening cycles and leaks from connectors/seals etc Quote
Guest Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 It appears to be fine now, took the bike over Swindon Yamaha to test out the new MT-09 Tracer. You going to get rid of your gixxer? Quote
Matt Strange Posted May 10, 2015 Author Posted May 10, 2015 Nope, looking for a "fun" 2nd bike. Quote
Matt Strange Posted May 10, 2015 Author Posted May 10, 2015 Come the winter, you'll likely be able to get a k7/8 for the typical price of a k6 going by mileage/condition, with a full decat & power commander they are every bit as good.Don't get too hung up on a k5/6. Quote
