Danny1107 Posted May 24, 2015 Posted May 24, 2015 Hey guys, I'm new here just signed up as I thought it's best to ask in a place where there will be someone in the know!I'm 24 and have my provisional (yes I know I should of at least passed my car test by now but things in life like to come up unexpectedly) I'm thinking about getting a bike and I've always liked the idea of having one just haven't really put much thought into it until now. On my license I have AM A and B, the confusion is with the A part, I thought as a learner I could only ride up to a 125 with a CBT? So that would be A1 if I'm correct? Really confused by this and was just hoping someone could clear up any confusion for me.The bike I'm planning on getting is the KTM Duke 125, really like the looks of this bike and have read a lot of good reviews about it. Stu Posted May 24, 2015 Posted May 24, 2015 no A1 is full licence but restricted nothing changes on your licence when you do the CBT you just get a certificate to say you have done it Quote
Danny1107 Posted May 24, 2015 Author Posted May 24, 2015 I know nothing changes on the license when I get the CBT I'm just confused to why it says I have the A license on there? haha Quote
Marky Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 It's a provisional category A licence, but you can only ride bikes where you satisfy the licence requirements. When unaccompanied and on L-plates that's up to a 125.As you're over 24, you can ride a big bike but ONLY if accompanied by an instructor on a direct access training course. If you didn't have provisional A on your licence you wouldn't even be able to do that. It's much the same as you can't start driving a car without a provisional B licence, but you still can't drive one unaccompanied until you pass. Quote

thebendyfox Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 The new licences are a bit confusing at first if you aren't familiar with the coding's.For instance, if you have a full car licence, you are automatically given an entry into the "A" section of the categories, on the reverse of your card licence. At first glance this would indicate a full bike licence, however it has a "79(3)" coding attached, which limits you to Tricycles only. Quote
