K4 GSXR 600 not starting - Help!!

Hi all,

I am new to the biking scene and passes my mod2 last week :-)

I bought a K4 GSXR 600 and it was all going fine until earlier today when I stalled the bike and then it wouldn't turn on.

The battery is now dead and everytime I go to start it it makes a clicking noise from the rear of the bike.

I've only covered roughly 100 miles in it and it's already becoming a nuisance!

Could someone please shed some light on this for me?

Thanks in advance

hi and welcome to the forum

the clicking is due to the battery going flat

its the starter relay clicking in and out it does this due to no enough power in the battery to start the bike

was the battery flat when you tried to restart after the stall?? or did you flatten it trying to start it?

you need to charge the battery first and you need to use a bike specific charger

Kill switch.......didn't think of that!

If I had accidentally pressed it, would the bike still try turning over?

When I stalled it I tried starting it straight away and it was trying to start but just wouldn't. Then eventually the battery went dead!

No bike wont attempt to start if killswitch is flicked. Symptoms as said sounds like battery. Of it was clicking straight away when you tried to restart it then sounds like the bikes not charging, do you have fuel? When turning the ignition on can you hear the fuel pump priming the bike?

Yeah definitely sounds like the battery.

Where are you located?

If it was a Honda I'd say reg/rec

It was running so should have been charging the battery so battery should have had some charge when you stalled it and been able to start again. Not being able to start immediately after it had been running says to me battery's not getting charge.

Charge/Change the battery then you'll be golden :thumb:

Had a similar thing happen to my K1, rode into work fine, think i might have accidentally left the parking lights on all day (i never realised there were parking lights) Came to start and nothing, got a new battery and everything was rosy again!

Thanks for the replies, I've replaced the battercliffe and the bike started up perfectly fine, didn't get a chance to get out on it but had it started for all of 10 seconds!

Hopefully weather permitting I'll be out on it tomorrow!

Hopefully it was just a dead battery.

might be worth doing due diligence and checking the battery is charging when the bike is started.

without the bike running, a multimeter will show between 12 and 13 v (generally speaking a newer rested battery will show closer to 13v).

with the bike running, you should see something like 14v or thereabouts on the multimeter. Anything higher and something is wrong with the charging circuit. anything lower and something is wrong with the charging circuit!! too high and your battery fries. too low and your battery doesn't charge!

best of luck!

Thanks for the heads up, I'll check it our tomorrow and see what the readings are!

If the readings are off, what could be the cause?

Probably won't have a chance to check today but will hopefully check it tomorrow!

Ta!!
