Stu Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 The cheaper ones don't do all that at the same time So your stuck with the expensive ones Check out sena or scala rider both as good as each your budget will decide which one to get Quote
Chrissb6 Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 Hi If money no problem then l would seriously be looking at this one http://www.sena.com/promo/20sNot cheap, but quality never was Quote
Epic Earl Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 Are these good at high speeds?I've got a cheap one but its not much use when going faster than 60 mph Quote
Chrissb6 Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 Are these good at high speeds?I've got a cheap one but its not much use when going faster than 60 mph Hi Mate, no matter what system your using if you do not isolate - cancel out the wind noise you will fail. In helmet speakers work well if fitted correctly, by that l mean in exactly the right place to your ears and you also need to use earplugs to cancel out the high frequency wind noise, also you need to have a helmet that is snug fit and dos not let in to much wind that will cause turbulence and noise, l use a cotton neck tube to seal up my helmet.Alternatively to helmet speakers you can use the noise cancelling in ear earphones. You can get a bespoke set made which are not cheap but really good or alternatively a set like this.http://www.amazon.co.uk/MEElectronics-S ... B0038W0K2KThese are almost flat to the ear which makes them comfy inside the helmet. We use them all the time, for the money there as good as it gets l think. Again just be sure you fit the correct buds to suite your ear any wind noise getting in will render the units useless. Quote
Guest Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 I had one of these;http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/800M-Inter-Bl ... 43bbf2cefdAnd Raabey has the same.I also just recently upgraded to the Sena 20s... After my first ride with the Sena I thought it was amazing, and it is. Sound quality is superb, good bass and generally just very clear. It has some very cool features such as tap to voice command (and the voice commands themselves!). Music cuts in and out if if your partnered device talks or your mic detects noise... in my case my exhaust it too loud to make it work well for me but with a quiet exhaust it would work well. Any has a lot of nice features that make your ride more "accessible" in terms of using your phone. However...In terms of music quality - I found out why it is good. Or at least a big factor... The sena comes with these velcro foam extenders which bring the speakers about 5mm closer to your ear. They actually sit in your eat from the helmet. If you can makeshift something for the cheaper ones, I'm sure it will improve sound quality as removing them from the Sena made it just like the old one to be honest...Also, I had the Sena and Raabey had the cheapo and we have tested them both to communicate together at a ton so both are capable devices... Anyway, if you've got excess funds, go for a more expensive one. They have nice features. If you don't - buy a cheapo one, it will do everything you need, bar the own headphones (but I don't use them since I don't feel it's needed) and I would recommend either buying some foam extenders or making them pretty cheaply. Just something to bring the speakers close to your ears. Quote
Epic Earl Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 I've noticed on mine, they are loud enough when playing music/listening to sat nav instructions or when making calls. It just appears to be quieter when using the intercom part.My helmet is a box helmet and it looks like they've made in the inside to accommodate speakers as the fabric that goes where your ears are, has loads of little holes in, to allow sound to travel through.I might see if I can get some small foam inserts to push them out a little. My helmet is fairly new and doesn't allow half as much wind through as before. I would say from what your saying that you might need to adjust volume on the headsets to make them louder, then turn down the volume on the satnav, phone and anything else you may have connected to get them all balanced and inline. Pete Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 Just bought a dual kit of Sena SMH5-FM intercoms. Very, very impressed with them. You can get them singly as well though I'm not sure how much for, they'll be under £100 though.I ordered mine from wheelup.it - cost £188 including postage which is cheaper than getting them in the UK (Wheel Up are based in Milan). Came very quickly, English manuals included (same as you'd get here basically). As an aside I'm definitely going to use that site again. Stuff on there is a decent price and arrives quickly. On the Sena's, I'm massively impressed. I went for the -FM ones to have the option of listening to the radio. Works very well. Intercom function is very clear, as is the phone function and sat nav too. All over bluetooth as well so no need for a cable. If you've got a smartphone (iPhone or Android) and use it as an MP3 player it'll treat the phone as both a phone and a music device and works well over bluetooth.Sena make more expensive/fully featured models but I couldn't see me using them and am really, really pleased with the SMH5.
