Dynamo_Delboy Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 Looking for a bit of help here folks.Got a 1989 ZX10 and recently it seems to be leaking fuel. Not had a chance to get the tank off but pretty sure its the tank itself thats the problem. Looks like there is a bit of rust bottom left hand side of the tank and its been a bit damp and its directly under that that the drips are landing on and dripping down.. Question is, whats the best way to repair it if it is the tank?Been told liquid metal but have no idea how to use it lol Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 will be the tank they often rot out right in the bottom corner where the fuel sits when its on side stand and the tank will have a residue of water sat there when unused for a period of time the lisuid metal is two components mixed together and they form a paste i think that you an then put around the affected area but make sure it is bone dry first or it will not seal you might be better off confiming it is the tank and then see if you can find a good 2nd hand one will be a lot less hassle Quote
Grumpy Old Git Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 You really need to cure and seal the tank from the inside - Any outside 'patching' will just continue to rot around the edges. You can get tank sealing kits (and they do work) but it takes time to do it properly and the tank has to be off the bike.2nd hand tank from a breakers could be an option? cockercas Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 If its not seen cut the effected area out and weld it up. Quote
