Glorian Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Just a question related to this stuff.Cleaned the bike the other day, sprayed it on a rag and rubbed down the ending and pipes.Started the bike up this morning and it was smoking. all coming from the engine and it stunk not of like burning oil or anything but a sweet smell that i can only assume was ACF-50? Anyone else have this and should i worry or put less on? Quote
RantMachine Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Yup, mine did the same last year. Which reminds me, I should really get around to doing it this weekend. Quote
soll Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 ACF-50 is the lifes blood of a non rusting CHinese bike..... This stuff is awesome.... i cover the whole bike in the stuff then wipe off any excess.first start up after application, it always looks like i have a dry ice machine nearby..... Quote
RantMachine Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Last year I spent hours trying to mask the brakes and tyres and then spray apply it, took far too long. Going to try applying it with a cloth this year instead, sounds much easier! Quote
mealexme Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Yea, it burns off. It says on the can I think, but its non flammable and nothing to worry aboutIts actually good fun. You feel like a magician or mythical god when you pull up at work in a cloud of smoke. It settles, and there you are! Quote
Arwen Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Yup, mine does that too. It soon stops, unless you have puddles of it all over the engine. I've never covered up any bits of the bike when applying it. Normally I spray it on the engine then use a cloth to spread it around the rest of the bike. Quote
Glorian Posted October 9, 2015 Author Posted October 9, 2015 ACF-50 is the lifes blood of a non rusting CHinese bike..... Is that like a unicorn? I've never seen one Cool glad my worries are nothing to focus on, Pungent smell it kicks off!! Quote
whitedevil Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 cloth and paintbrush is the best/easiest way i find or do it properly and mask off the brakes and spray it on with an atomiser. A thin layer is what you want so it protects but doesn't go on thick and become a muck magnet. Quote
Glorian Posted October 9, 2015 Author Posted October 9, 2015 I remember osmeone mentioning a paintbrush before.. I need to try this. Spray it on the brush and wipe over would be a lot easier! Quote
Fozzie Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 The rag tip is what I've always done with WD40 when cleaning parts of the bike. Never actually used ACF-50 but I know what it's made up of and it sounds good so I must give it a go.The said I've never really had a problem with corrosion.Glorians bandit I can understand, a slight summer breeze could corrode that bike.Rantmachines beemer I've become convinced has hyper intelligent mice of the hitch hikers guide to the galaxy variety eating through and dislodging components so unless it's poisonous I'm unsure on its effect! Fozzie Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 I say it all in jest Mr Glorian It is funny that the two times we've met, the first your bike was chucking out smoke faster than a VW after an emissions test, and the second time the brake light stayed on the entire time and it had a small oil leak if I recall.ACF-50 has bikers written all over it... "Protect my bike? Better use something designed to keep corrosion off it while being propelled through the air at 500mph". Over protection at its finest, it's like having no balls but using a condom anyway.Just seen the above post - Holy f**k balls I heard of the axle snapping thing. Who gave the mice air tools!? Quote
RantMachine Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 It's actually the forks that snap:http://www.adventuresinfinite.com/Motorcycling/images/BrokenBike/forks1.jpgI checked mine a while back and noticed that my right fork leg is one of the newer reinforced ones but my left is the old type - that was the point when I first suspected that this bike has been in a nasty crash at some point and nobody told the insurers Quote

I'd only had it 2 weeks! And yes the brake light.. that was poor adjusting by my part, i wasnt aware for another 2-3 weeks i recall. i think you did tell me but i was to like "Omg these people ride fast" again being a week or so after i passed my test haha.Ironically im changing the switch tomorrow for the rear brake Quote

I am guilty of hovering around the BMW website this morning as the F800 is a worthy competitor to the MT07 in terms of what I'll mainly be using it for. BMW sure know how to give their riders a "thrilling" experience. If they don't knock years off your life in stress, they go for a more direct approach it seems I'd only had it 2 weeks! Glorian Posted October 9, 2015 Author Posted October 9, 2015 I like my little bandit I'm gonna keep a few years to refine my riding skills then get something a bit nicer/more expensive ^^ Quote
