Yamaha SR 125 - Project, many questions :)

Hi all,

Please bear in mind, i have no idea about motorcycles other than anything thats transferable from tearing apart, repairing and modifying cars.

I recently purchased a 2002 SR125 from eBay as spares or repairs, non runner, possible starter motor issue. The bike is tatty, missing a few bits here and there and in need of a good TLC.

As i have no licence yet, ive brought it as a project over the winter ready for when i pass my CBT.

I got it home, stripped down and cleaned the starter motor as it had a layer of oil/dirt inside. Refitted, connected the battery...click..nothing.

Realised that the second positive terminal wasnt connected to the starter solenoid. Refitted and fired up...well... Not quite. Engine has compression, spark and carb works, but left hand crank case isnt fitted 100%.

So, I ask;

Where is the best place to buy spares for these?

Im in need of a nearside engine gasket, replacement screws for cover as they are rusted to hell and ive rounded one already, fuel tank/seat bolt and battery holder/clamp for the offside.

Im writing a huge list of things to check/repair to get the bike in working order before i strip down, fully clean and rebuild but these are the few bits holding me back so far.

Thanks for the read, any hints or tips for things to check whilst im at it are greatly appreciated.

Search eBay for bits like gaskets etc.......Most spares suppliers have an eBay shopfront these days...... 8-)

While you're working on the bike I'd be inclined to check steering head and wheel bearings, and replace if necessary.....strip and clean and refurb the brakes too.......and check all electrical connections for corrosion, etc....... 8-)
