Guest Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 Hello loovelly peeps In the not too distant future, I is going to balance me' carbs innit...I'm only getting 80 miles before I hit reserve, and there's a glitch in the fueling at 6000 rpm... Which leads me to conclude that (i) the carbs are probably quite gummed up, and (ii) they aren't set up anywhere near right ...The carbs in question are Keihin, not sure what mm off the top of me' head, will have to look in my Haynes...Which leads me to 2 questions...Hot potatie No. 1 : where is a good place to buy a set of gauges....and Hot potatie No. 2 : How easy peasey or otherwise should the process of balancing them be ??Course, the other thing is, if they're really really really gummed up, they'll probably need a strip and re-assembley... which I probably wundnt fancy taking on ... but nothing ventured nothing gained ..... houdini Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 Get a proper bike lolOnly kidding no idea on both counts, if I took mine apart theres a very good chance Id never get them back on so I leave that to the spanner monkeys at the bike shop.Fiddle with it, tinker away til your happy, it might keep you quiet for a bit so thats a bonus I will travel up to keep you in coffee, console you when it all goes t@ts up etc Quote
Guest Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 Ed you can pick guages up cheap enough on Ebay i got mine for about £20 if i remember there will be a order of balance im not sure if all bikes use the same method but mine was balance 2 and 3 then bring in 1 and 4 in to match 2 and 3 the hardest bit will be setting up a temp fuel tank as you will need to remove yours to get at the adjusting screws i used a coke bottle with a pipe glued into the cap and then cut off the bottom of the bottle so it acts like a funnel if you understand me then hang the bottle up above the bike and allow gravity to do the rest Have fun Quote
Guest nigelf Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 You can borrow my gauges if you want....hardest part of balancing is connecting the meters...Nigel Quote
Stu Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 a balance will only make it tick over properly edster if its got flat spots while it up in the revs it will need setting up properly on a dyno about £140 quid if you get a set of guages get some carb tune ones i think M&P stock them they are easy to do as long as you know which way to balance them this is when you need a manual some you balance cylinders 3 and 4 together then 1&2 together then 3&4 to 1&2 and some you balance 4 to 3 3 to 2 2 to 1 you lost yet ? if you want to clean them its best to do it before the balance simple get some carb cleaner pull the carbs off take them apart and spray with carb cleaner good luck Quote
