Skimblet Posted September 8, 2016 Posted September 8, 2016 Hi,I'm new to this biking thing so may just be paranoid.I also understand that noise is subjective so I could just be being overly precious.so I purchased a 2011 ybr 3 weeks ago from a second hand dealer (without warranty, they are a fair distance away so I wouldn't be able to get it back to the them if there was a problem anyway and they knocked £200 off)now I'm guessing its just me but when opening the throttle, the engine just seems overly noisy, it has oil, starts fine, idles at between 1500 and 2000 depending on if it's cold or warm, doesn't seem to lose power (I'm getting 50-65mph I'm a big chap).the noise to me sounds like an exhaust blowing on a car, I've looked it over and can't find any holes but the noise appears to be coming from the front of the engine where the exhaust is.any thoughts or am I just being and over anxious paranoid precious noon? Guest Posted September 8, 2016 Posted September 8, 2016 Any dealer has 30 days warrentee, legallyNip it around a local place and get a second opinion Quote
nicklucey Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 Recently been trying to sort my own exhaust, spray some soapy water around where you think there might be a leak, and pump some air into the exhaust, saw people using air compressors for this but a bike pump with a half plastic bottle and some rubber gloves to get a good seal did the job for me, if there's air leaking you'll see bubbles in the soapy waterSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
Skimblet Posted September 9, 2016 Author Posted September 9, 2016 I don't think its the exhaust, could it be that the valve clearances need checking/Adjusting?I think I may be better off (as I know sod all about mechanical things, give me a pc or laptop to strip down and repair and I'm happy) either finding someone "Who knows about these things" to take a look or take it to a garage.I was rather hoping that this would be a rather simple beast and that I would be able to learn some hands dirty mechanical things with it Quote
nicklucey Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 Feel the fear and unbolt it anywaySent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
Tango Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 It doesn't sound like valve clearances to me........probably blowing a bit where the header pipe goes into the cylinder head......may need reseating or just tightening..... Quote

Skimblet Posted September 11, 2016 Author Posted September 11, 2016 Took it to the bike shop, a kind chap there informed me it's 'tappets' and nothing to worry about just get them adjustednow my next question is, is this difficult to do? Quote
Tango Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 Tappets are not difficult to do.......but you need a Haynes manual......and some feeler gauges. ...... Quote
rice-pudding Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 4 stroke single 125's are always going to be noisy at higher speeds, took a while for me to get used to it at first but you get used to it Quote
Skimblet Posted September 12, 2016 Author Posted September 12, 2016 that's where I am now!!took the bike to another more local proper bike mechanic who had a listen told me not tappets it's just a 125, took a look at the chain, adjusted it and sent me on my merry way.now know where I will be going to save me getting my hands dirty lol Quote
rice-pudding Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 You've just to think, that engine is going to be working it's hardest when you're going 60+ mph, it's not going to be quiet Quote
Skimblet Posted September 13, 2016 Author Posted September 13, 2016 I am now at peace with myself and my bike Quote
