Phthalo Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 (edited) Hey guys,I need some clarification on the issue of learner bikes and the full car license. I've had a full car license since 1987 and have recently bought a Suzuki 125. My question:Once I have taken the compulsory CBT does this then entitle me to ride a learner bike for the duration of my car license thus negating the 2 year provisional license rule? Many thanksP. Westbeef Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 Hi,You need a provisional before you can do your CBT, your full car licence acts as a provisional and you can ride your 125 with L plates on this. You CBT expires after 2 years, but your provisional never expires on your car licence. Quote
Phthalo Posted March 31, 2017 Author Posted March 31, 2017 Thanks Westbeef. So if for some reason I don't pass my motorcycle test within the two years, do I have to re-take the CBT? Quote
someone Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 So if for some reason I don't pass my motorcycle test within the two years, do I have to re-take the CBT? Yes. Having a full car licence is totally irrelevant to motorcycle licensing other than acting as a provisional one for the sake of riding motorcycles. The only minor exception is if you have held a full car licence since before 2001, in which case it does allow you to ride mopeds (legally meaning bikes up to 50cc) without a CBT. But anything larger, or gained later, it is the same as if you did not have the car licence. Quote
Phthalo Posted March 31, 2017 Author Posted March 31, 2017 Great! Thanks for the info both. All is clear now! Quote
