Joerwallder Posted November 4, 2017 Posted November 4, 2017 1996 Suzuki RF600R bike was running fine then revs started getting lower and bike would splutter in full throttle and had hardly any power. Got home and let it sit for the night, tried to start and would only start on full choke, checked petrol and it had none, topped petrol up then tried and it wouldn’t start at all. Sparks were wet with petrol, changed them, filled tank up and charged battery, bike still won’t start. Cranks and exhaust fumes come out but it won’t fire up. Also when I try and start it in gear with clutch in it’s rolling forward but this never happened before, is it related? Help please. New to this thanks in advance Quote
megawatt Posted November 4, 2017 Posted November 4, 2017 So you ran out of fuel? There's often crap and water at the bottom of the tank. You need to remove carbs and thoroughly clean them. Drain tank, remove tap, flush out tank and clean tap. Refill with fresh fuel. Quote
megawatt Posted November 4, 2017 Posted November 4, 2017 Drain oil and if it smells of fuel, the tank has emptied into the sump via carbs and air filter. Blow warm air into engine via oil filler and allow out of sump drain. When no more fuel smell, refill with oil. Quote
leener Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 What megawatt said. No fuel = potential for crud to enter the carbs. As for petrol in the engine - definitely change the oil. I had this once and nearly had a wrecked engine.Get those carbs off and cleaned. Quote
Joerwallder Posted November 6, 2017 Author Posted November 6, 2017 Thanks all for the advice. Will remove a oil and try all your points when I can! Quote
Joerwallder Posted November 8, 2017 Author Posted November 8, 2017 a friend cleaned carbs, no petrol smell in the old oil, put fresh oil in, bike still won’t start? it sounds like I’m starting a normal working bike except the starter just carries on instead of a sweet Vrooomm. What could it be? And could the clutch thing have anything to do with this? Also when I hold the starter down for a little bit, the fuel pump clicks ONCE a couple of seconds after I let go of the button, is this related? There’s only a reserve, off or on, there’s no prime or anything else, no filter on the reserve just a tube at the bottom of the tank. Quote
