Quick question ........how much low down grunt has this bad boy got? Was thinking about trading in my r6 I want more low down torque instead of ringing my r6 tits off .........

It's got plenty...I've owned 4 '98 models ..2 '03 models and an 04 and 05 ...from 30mph in top gear just roll it on,they pull from anywhere, the early 98 bike will become collectable very soon, and is still a weapon,..you wont be dissapointed

I've got an 01 5jj, it will pull from 3000rpm in any gear.

Riding around at 50-70 mph I just leave it in 6th most of the time.Even for normal overtaking you can just roll the throttle on and pass by comfortably.

Mid 40s mpg when ridden normally, 150 miles to a tank.

Comfort is ok for a tankful, but gets to my wrists on 200 mile plus rides.

Reliability has been good so far, owned it 3 years and put around 9k miles on it, now at 38k in total.

It can get a bit lively under acceleration, front can lift with ease and had the steering shaking at 90mph over bumpy roads.

Not ridden an R6 but I don't think you woulld be disappointed in any R1. :thumb:

If you want low down grunt go for the 09+ model, that cross plane i4 is suppose to be insane

Performance bike magazine tested the 09 R1 crossplane against the 07,on the dyno the 07 made more horsepower and more midrange, was also faster on the road,..also the 09 weighed more..I road tested the 09 when it came out and preferred my 05,.I think the 05-07 is prettier too...I would road test a few models and see which you prefer, they're all good...

I’ve owned a 2004 which I just didn’t get in with at all, a 98 which was amazing and I regret selling it, I’ve also ridden a 2016 one which was a phenomenal bike, every bit as good as the competition.
