Pheature Posted May 2, 2020 Posted May 2, 2020 Hello all, sorry if this topic is in wrong place couldnt find the thread to post in.Basically I've had a gilera cougar 125 2002 model sitting for a good few years, battery was pure dead so got new one and it's trying to start but the petrol is leaking out from the bottom I've tried a few things to try and stop this like tighten a few screws around the engine(as you can tell I'm not bike savvy) but I do like to try, it never had this leak when it was stored. It's actually got like a wee plug in the outlet but it doesnt stop it from leaking I'm not sure if the plug is worn or what but it doesnt seem the engine is getting the petrol round it. Changed the oil aswell kind of knew that wasent the issue but changing the oil after 3 4 years laying could only be a good thing. I'm sure what ever is making the petrol leak from the bottom is what's causing my issue Thanks Quote
Bianco2564 Posted May 3, 2020 Posted May 3, 2020 Hello and welcome.Storing bikes can result in all sorts of issues when you try to recomission them; corrosion, fuel gumming, rubber perishing.I'd look at;Rusted fuel tankLeaking fuel tapPerished fuel linesClean the carb out, could be float sticking causing overflow out the bottom of the engine.Replace all the seals and gaskets in carb.Suggest you take some pics of where the fuel is leaking from so we can try to help.Do you have a manual?Changing the oil is a good idea after the lay up, does it have a filter or screen filter?
