I recently bought a suzuki rm85,and the previous owner has bought an after market carburettor which is causing the engine to race away when started and the choke doesn't seem to affect it whatsoever.

Have you tried turning the idle screw down? Is there enough slack on the throttle cable? Any intake vacuum leaks? Is the choke cable definitely working?
