Guest Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 I've got a bit of a quandry now ....My old Zeph ain't worth very much I know ...And whilst I do want a newer, second bike this year, I wanna keep my Zeph as my everyday hack ...Went into DPS yesterday to get some prices for BT 021s - and they are MUCH cheaper than Appies ... £10 per tyre to fit ... no disposal charge, and will charge around £135 for a set ... BUT ... the chap at DPS did try to steer me towards some cheaper Avon summat or others ...Think he thinks that as my bike is an oldie, it ain't worth the BT 021s ...I'm not fussed about spending more on the 021s - I'm only interested in maximum grip at the end of the day, in rainy & sunny weather ....What would you peeps do ????Cheaper Avons, that this geezer reckons are great ...Or stick to my guns and get 021s ?????PS: Being the cynical twonk I am .. I did suspect that he was making more of a profit on the Avons ... And he didn't rate the 021s at all, which is clearly crap, as the 020 was the mutts nuts .... Quote
Guest Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 Yeh and dont forget the commission he will get on the Avon..http://images.ciao.com/iuk/images/products/normal/843/Avon_representative__5627843.gif Quote

But I'm gonna keep it ... So I might aswell put decent rubber on it, innit! Its a bit more wonga, but they'll last me ages .... Quote
houdini Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 Oi ya cheeky sod I rate the avon ones as good uns, you sayin Im a cheapskate?step outside gitface, I'll wipe the floor wi' ya!handbags at dawn!Decent rubber pah, they are bleedin decent, you just want to brag you got better bands than me! Quote
rennie Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 I would think that the Avons would suit your Zephyr better than the new Bridgestones Ed, honestly, horses for courses and all that. I'm thinking of putting them or michelins on the blade for the spain trip. Quote
houdini Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 See!!!!!!!!eddy you dony now you ass fron your elbo, oh god the voddy all gone noe and its only tuusday Quote
beefy505 Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 Have a look through the link on here, not sure how biased it will be towards certain make as not looked properly myself. Should give you an idea.http://www.blackcircles.com/tyres/motorbike-tyres Quote

Yeh, I see where what you're getting at Rennie ...But, 021s are a road tyre, and should warm up well at the sorts of speeds I do ... and this new un' is supposed to be the mutts nuts in terms of grip - which is 1st on my priorities list ... Actaully, its the only thing I'm bothered about ... They might be fairly dear, but they'll last me yonks ....I'd agree wholeheartedly if I was going for a pure sports option, as they'd hardly ever heat up for me ...Are you saying that I wouldn't notice the difference in the level of grip ??Maybe you're right ... I'm always open to ideas ... Quote
rennie Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 I'm not slagging your bike off Ed but I doubt it would cope with more grip than the cheaper tyres have to offer. Therefore you wouldn't notice any difference and the extra cost would be wasted.Only my opinion I may well be wrong Quote
Guest Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 my avon azaro's were pretty good even when through to the canvashttp://img125.imageshack.us/img125/7742/cimg1638zu2.jpg Quote
Guest Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 yes, but only from the lake district. The canvas was only peeping through when we went over Hardknott pass Quote
Guest Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 http://img125.imageshack.us/img125/7742/cimg1638zu2.jpg At least the chain looks lubed Is that a Kwak 2 stroke to the right ??And a Rudge-Whitworth in the foreground ?? Quote
Guest Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 I'm beginning to lean towards the cheaper option ...At the end of the day ... I need 2 shocks, and a chain and sprockets ...And my fuel gauge thinks its Ethiopian ....So at least that would gimme more brass for the other jobs Quote
Guest Posted June 16, 2007 Posted June 16, 2007 its one of my old Suzuki GT750's bought it in 1980, it's done about 85,000 miles but not been running for quite some time. Used it to go to France Italy etc. many good times on that one. Quote
nigelwood1 Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 I got me a nice new pair of BT021's last friday. It appears the knob jockey who fitted the 208 on the front shouldn't have fitted it as it's not really rated for the bike and he also managed to fit it the wrong way round..The front doesn't vibrate anymore and the back is nice and smooth too.. Got the thing over onto the footrests in 10 miles so they scrub in easy too.2 weeks and 4 days til I go touring in europe so new hoops will be nice n scrubbed in by then... Quote
cyberwolf Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 avon are good tyres i use to have them on the zzr i skrewed the shit out of that bike and never had a problem with the tyres Quote
