Evs7 Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 got out of work tonight and my disc lock wouldn't open off my front break disc, then the key broke in the lock DOH I'm completely stuck, I've managed to stick the bike in a van and get it home but has anyone got any ideas how to get the lock off? Thanks,Edited by Gary...Moved to pitstop Quote
Stu Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 grinder or a drill watch the disc though if you can get the disk off and get it in a vice at working level Stu Quote
cyberwolf Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 or you could take the wheel to the bikeshop and they cut it of for you but dont know how much it costs Quote
Guest Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 I would imagine cutting it off will depend on what sort of quality the lock is best bet get the wheel off and remove the disc before you try it will be easier to work on plus you might only have to buy a new disc if the worse happens Quote
Evs7 Posted June 14, 2007 Author Posted June 14, 2007 Good news, I had a go with the grinder tonight, loads of damp sheets covering the bike and slowly chopped into the lock.Managed to cut a large triangle close to the gap and then just cut above the loop that goes close to the disc, it fell in two pieces and I was thankfully no where near the disc with the grinder, so looks like I've got away with it thankfully. Thanks for all your advice. At least I now know it would take 20 minutes and alot of noise to get that off, trouble is though that it only took three of us five minutes to load it in the back of a van the other night when we couldn't remove the lock. Not so good. Quote
Guest Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 Aye ... Only any good in conjunction with a chain Evs Quote
