Admin Posted May 27, 2021 Posted May 27, 2021 Piaggio’s One electric scooter will officially debut May 28 at the Beijing Motor Show. (Piaggio/) While celebrating the 75th anniversary of their most iconic product, the Vespa, iconic scooter brand Piaggio is not resting on the laurels they’ve collected through three-quarters of a century. It has now introduced the “One,” an electric model intended to be the spearhead of a whole new scooter generation. At this date we do not have any solid technical data about the Piaggio One, even though it is to be officially unveiled May 28; and even then we might see only a wooden mock-up, since the Piaggio technical department is still hard at work on passing the homologation tests required to let the One loose in the European market around the end of June. The One is aimed at young riders with an affordable price point and 4kW of power. (Piaggio/) The Piaggio One will be a lightweight scooter aimed at the teen market, so power will not exceed 4kW. That allows the One to be classified as a moped, free from registration and thereby accessible to youngsters age 14 and up. Piaggio already played this card with Vespa Elettrica, which being a Vespa does not come cheap. The Piaggio One, on the other hand, is intended to storm the market with an accessible price. Exactly how accessible it will be is still a matter for the crystal ball, but Piaggio claims the new One will come at competitive price. It looks nice and smart, with a clean design that’s very much Piaggio. Test riders report that it is very light, user friendly, and comfortable. The One takes advantage of all the experience Piaggio technicians have gathered from Vespa Elettrica. And we can expect that, for instance, recharging will be made easier by resorting to removable batteries where the Elettrica’s are fixed. The design of the Piaggio One looks sharp and sources say it is light and user friendly. (Piaggio/) Among its technological updates, the One will include advanced TFT instrumentation, full LED lighting, and keyless storage access and starting. The chassis looks Vespa inspired, with classic trailing-link front suspension, while at the rear features a cast aluminum swingarm connected to a simple pair of shock absorbers. There are disc brakes at both ends, and the comfortable-looking seat tilts, allowing access to a surprisingly generous cargo compartment. More on Piaggio’s ONE as details are released, including any news of its appearance in the US market. View the full article Quote
JackieOWheels Posted May 27, 2021 Posted May 27, 2021 I wonder how fast this wee scooter can go, I for one would like to see how it compares against a manual pedal cycle bike. I guess this would work well in the same market as a segway. Lol. Quote
