A fuller description, along with pictures, would help identify what you have bought. lf it is a 1981 R65, there are a few variations, but it will look like a smaller version of the modern R series BMW, with a “boxer” engine - a cylinder sticking out each side. There is a forum for owners of these bikes where you may get help - try bmbikes .org.uk But you will need much more detail. ….. Quote

Its rare, very rare indeed for BMWs to suffer electrical problems nowadays.. and for years. The only valid reason for going for the original part is a full, showroom restoration where every part is original. There will be a reason the part you mention has changed. I wouldn't suggest running to a forum. My suggestion would be a phone call to Motorworks who will give you a speedy answer. Ive always found them to be very fair with answers not clouded by any profit motive. Quote
