PLEASE i have little to none knowledge about vehicles.. no, i have none (mechanics wise)

im buying a used kawasaki ninja 600 and it needs:

battery,

regulator/rectifier.

my question to all of you is, will this cost alot, and if the regulator/rectifier broke before battery died what could it wreck ? would the bike even start ? is there anything really expensive I need to worry about that will need fixing

and will it cost alot to get those 2 replaced?

I live in Canada (BC) so if anybody has an idea of what this might do to my wallet, or if it would just be a bad idea to buy the bike..

what are your thoughts ?

the bike only cost 1,500 CAD and the owner has agreed to bring it into a shop (at my expense of course).. I thought I would ask people on here before wasting time on the 2 hour trip to get the bike and than paying for a mechanic to look at it ?

can't help with canadian prices, reg/rec appx £80, battery appx £40.

if reg/ rec went first then fried battery everything else should be ok but you can't be sure till you've replaced them.

say hello in newbies

I'll leave your duplicate post for now but delete it tomorrow that ok?

yes thank you!

are these parts hard to come by (seeing as this is an older bike)

or is the reg/rec more universal (sorry if this sounds so dumb but I dont know much - and thankyou for trying to help I have run into some people who are just not nice when they run into someone like me (uneducated on the subject)

he said this:

I can get it started with a boost, but anytime the choke is taken off or gas

is given it dies.

would this be caused by the reg/rec and/or battery or something else ?

Posted

yes reg rec should be easy to get.

other problem sounds un related to me but very hard to tell without seeing/hearing

edit..

'85 kawasaki ninja 600

its got 66k KM

he was looking to buy a new bike and when everything broke he thuoght just do that instead of spending money to fix it than buy a new one

he said he could fix it now but thats time and money he doesnt want to go through just to sell the bike for more, he just wants to get rid of it.

my "step dad" (second family kinda thing) knows a little, and i would like to bring him and my moms boyfriend (soon to be real stepdad) who is quite intimidating.

hopefully this guy wont jerk me around

 It's all down to money really,

you could pay for 1 mechanic to do report on bike then take it somewhere else to get the work you choose done.

for piece of mind you could buy from dealer, with warranty but at much more cost.

any second hand buy is a gamble!

you really need someone you trust who knows what to look for/ ask.

oh i know

this bike is so cheap i feel like it would almost be worth getting it even if i do need to fix it up

if there is much to be done i could just buy some books and learn myself that way the next time im in a situation like this I wont need to run around so much getting other peoples help

well obviously i will but some experience helps you know?!

well if it's that cheap and you think he's genuine go for it!

quite a few people on here with zx6r's so would imagine you'd get lots of help later (it's only 0530 here)

good luck and enjoy!
