Hi all 

Could anyone recommend any breakdown cover companies that cover European travel on a 20 year old bike most apparently only cover up to 15 year old

Try ETA as their max age is 20. Aside from that maybe talk to one of the specialist insurers for older bikes like Carole Nash.
