Its that time of year again and I am doing a full service on the bike....


Only problem I have is I am replacing the chain and sprockets too and the front sprocket is a pain in the ass to undo. Any ideas on how I can get the bugger off guys and girls.

Airgun!




If thats not possible, get someone to hold the back brake of the bike on, and get a big cracker bar and appropriate socket, and undo it.


You did leave the chain on didnt you......

stick it in a high gear that should as good as lock the sprocket then lean on a wrench!

pay a garage to do it.....cost me about 20 notes to have the suzi garage do it on my bandit.....sooooo much easier :lol:

Pete that sounds like a good idea I will try that.


I have tried the back brake and I am moving the wheel!! At the moment I am worried of pushing or pulling the bike over I am putting that much force on the socket.


Sadly its just me and I don't have anyone to help me and Phil Susie is too far from me aswell :-( Anyway aren't you capable of doing your own work!!!

Nah sod that for £250 I get an oil change, filter change, fuel filter change, air filter change, plugs, and new chain and sprockets. I think that would cost a bit at the garage and would rather save the money and get the satisfaction of completing it :lol:

Argos........ £20 gets you a reversable electric impact gun which hooks up to your battery and is good enough for the job 8-)

I have tried top gear and lots and lots of back brake am almost back together and a trip to the garage it is going to be oh well I can get the bike hooked up to the dyno at the same time :lol: :lol:

Has it got a tab washer locking the sprocket nut in place? Have you folded it back? Ill be honest, I have at times ended up with a 2x4 timber wrapped in rags to avoid damage wedged thru the swingarm and (alloy) wheel spokes and a 2 foot breaker bar on some stubborn sprocket nuts.

They can be a real bind sometimes. Douse it in my old friend wd40 for a day or two, see if it helps.

Have tried all of those mate although the wood in the wheel will be my next attempt :lol:
