Not to hijack that thread again, have a vid about the hog using its systems during a fairly typical DCS mission. It does not end great for the hog or the pilot. They last three hours and involve stuff like locating enemy convoys in 1000 square miles and taking them out. I give the convoys a basic route and speed, but have no idea where they will be 1.5 hours after the mission starts. I can set a start point and a finish point, but like satnav, if they find a shorter route down a dirt track, they will take it. They rarely follow the route you expect. You have to grub around until your fuel is running low. Sometimes you find them, sometimes not. My missions are not growling sidewinder mission set pieces, but they are more realistic...Sometimes you fly three hours without enabling the master arm switch. That is real life missions. And yes I am no stranger to ejecting. In VR it is an oddly violent experience. This was state of the art US Air Force Procedural training circa 2010. Edited October 25, 2024 by Tinkicker 1 Quote

Or despite the best of intentions, shit happens. It even has its own term... Blue on blue, or red on red. Who ever wanted to go to shop at tesco, involving a right turn, when you normally turn left to go to work, and find yourself driving in the opposite direction to tesco? That is controlling a simple car. Try managing 15 times the workload and not screwing up. Back in 1995 I learned to fly a Cessna 172 and found it very " invigorating and busy". These days I find it very boring and predictable. And a Cessna compared to a car or a bike is a very challenging proposition. I was very close to a real blue on blue incident during Gw1 ! Involving a yank A10 and some fellow REME, I knew 1 of our fatalities personally 1 Quote
