I have taken of my back wheel and ive replaced the shoes and adjusetd my chain but one job ive not tackled yet is to take off and clean up my front brake!

The owners manual is compleatly usless when it comes to info regarding my front break!

Now I know when I take it off I'm not supposed to touch the front break or ill cause myself a lot of issues but can anyone advice on a couple of things

I can see two nuts that will release the front brake from my bike and the disc, BUT do I remove the nut that seems to connect the braking mechanisam from the hydrolic pype? Can't imagine that going well but id like to remove it 100% so I can give it a dam good clean!

Any advice would be appreciated. Going to tackle this in an hour or two if poss.

Thanks for the help and advice all

DO NOT undo the banjo bolt holding the brake line to the caliper

remove the two bolts on the fork leg that hold the caliper remove caliper remove pads or move to the side and clean

you are best pumping the pistons out slightly using the lever put a piece of wood or a spanner between the pistons so you dont pop them out otherwise that will be trouble

once finished push the pistons back in attach caliper tighten bolts :)

ps i will move this to pitstop section too

WalnieFrankey's been fiddling with his brakes recently. Ask him, I bet he'll have a few good tips.

Somebody call...... :D

GarethNW,

What is the bike?

What do you want to achieve?

if you are just changing the pads and a clean up then Stu's spot on, but if you want to overhaul the caliper, then a haynes manual is needed.. i can talk you through it, but the manual will give a better job and pictures..

if you are overhauling the caliper, then you will need to undo the pipe, but take the caliper off the fork and disc and pump the lever to push the pistons out, the pads will stop them coming fully out and covering you and the bike with fluid..

Brake fluid is paint stripper, so clean it up immediately with soapy water.. and i hang the pipes in plastic milk bottles so any fluid is captured...
