Guest Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 Hi people,I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me. I have recently bought a 2008 Suzuki GSX650F and was wondering if the ride height can be lowered? It looks as though the rear shock can be adjusted but im not sure if this is to adjust the shock recoil as opposed to the height. Any help would be appreciated. Also, on a different note, are there any mods that people with this bike would suggest / recommend? Thanks for your help. Ride safe. Quote
Pete Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 If it's anything like my 1999 GSX600F then the adjuster on the rear shock is just for rebound when carrying a fat person. I know you can lower the seat, but I've never needed to (being 6 foot 4) so haven't looked into it. Have you looked in Haynes?Mods that I've done to my bike which I'm glad I did:- Iridium IX spark plugs. Yes they're worth every penny- Brighter, whiter headlight bulbs (blue glass, but shine white). Make signs easier to read, bit brighter too.- Scottoiler - Datatool System 3 Alarm- LED Gear indicator. Not absolutely needed, but nice to have.- Most recent one is that I cut up one of those silver wire mesh waste paper bins and glued the panels inside my fairing to cover the holes. It looks freaking awesome. Like this chap's done on his Ducati:http://www.speedzilla.com/forums/attachments/ducati-superbikes/13701d1200434274-wire-mesh-749s-air-intake-dukemesh.jpgAnd here is a picture of said bin: Quote
Guest Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 Fat person haha. I thought so just wanted to check before i started adjusting things. The Haynes manual for the 2008 isn't available yet (scheduled for release this month but as yet its still not been) so until then i'm stuck guess and asking. Thanks for the list of mods. Ingenius use of a bin i must say and best of all I have that exact bin - might have to look into doing that as it looks awesome!!Cheers. Quote
kja.busa Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 The linkages can be swapped for longer ones, this will lower the back end, the forks can be slid through the yokes to lower the front, its probably an hours work to do it all. Just be aware it will reduce ground clearance and you'll probably want to take the centre stand off to save it scraping when cornering. Heres the link for the lowering kit.....http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Suzuki-GSX650F-Lo ... 7C294%3A30 Quote

Guest Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 kja.bua thanks for that. I haven't touched the shock settings - didn't dare start fiddling until i knew what it was i was adjusting so i'll take your advice and leave these as they are.The bike already has quite a lot of ground clearance and i dont intend to be doing muchspeed bump jumping, plus being only 5'9 and 13stone the lowered height is more of a benefit to me than the ground clearance.Again, cheers for all your help. Guest Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 Does anybody know of any decent after market seats that can be bought that are lower than the standard? I've read that the Sargent seat for the GSF1250 Bandit fits the GSX650F but its about £300 and not a great deal less height. Quote
kja.busa Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 Why not have your seat cut down and re-covered? Theres quite a few firms do it nowadays. Quote
Guest Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 Dog bones dont work on older GSXF's as they arn't plates but forged steel.. but should work on your later modeland if you do get longer plates then the centre stand will be harder to operate, as it will ground earlier than intended, and the angle on the side stand will change.. get the seat cover off carefully and cut some of the foam out, then refit, you'll need a good staplegun.. (i replaced my bandit seat cover, as it had ripped at the tank.. (they all do)or get a company to replace the foam with a lower height but greater density.. Quote
