  1. Yes the rules for test apply after you pass. If you have a look on motorcycle news I think they have a list of bikes reccomended for restriction also the manufacturers have launched a range of smaller cc bikes (eg the new 300cc ninja) to appeal to those on restricted licenses Why not drop a post in the newbies thread and introduce yourself?
  2. Pick up the current copy of 'Bike' theres a bit in there about a riding school in Yorkshire who'll lend you a bandit and teach you how to do it.
  3. Oh my GOD how much fun was that?? Got myself gloves (£10) boots (£69) helmet (£69) and two piece leathers (£99) Bargain central! Could have easily spent 100k on bikes. If I had 100k. Or a license. Or anywhere to keep them all haha! Enjoyed sitting on the cruisers and customs, not sure if I could ride one, but I could happily watch TV sat on one lol Was bit gutted, climbed on the daytona 675 triple, and it just didnt...fit. So not happy, always wanted one of those. Oh well I'll have to have a proper go one day, maybe it'll be different when I'm moving! I only got a 1 pound parking refund cos I'd bought in advance online, but to be fair, better than a kick in the nuts. Bloody tired by the end of it. Maybe next year I'll take a bike down but its a bit of a long (and dull) ride down the M6, may as well use the company workhorse Soooo now to upload the photos to facebook and await the backlash from my non biker mates about how dangerous bikes are
  4. apparently some do and some dont. I know people who've been done for speeding in average zones, but those 'in the know' can spot which lanes are live. I've not met anyone 'in the know' unfortunately! Also I always worry about the cameras on the M...42/bottom of the M6 (I think thats the right area LOL) with the overhead variable signage - do the cameras work if the signs arent on??? Like you said, not worth risking it!
  5. I get so annoyed at how sneaky they are - Manchester Airport right by the 'new 30 limit sign'. Also had a close shave going from a 40 B road into a 30. Again right on the change. If you're caught a half mile down the road in the town centre still doign 40, then you deserve it, but sat by the speed limit sign is just trying to catch out anyone whos still decelerating. Does anyone know if average speed cameras pick up bikes? I know theyre all front facing so no plate, but as per earlier post,...repeat offending (or bad luck) could still see them IDing you later. Do the average speed ones ID and photo every vehicle or do they only respond when they detect the numberplate?
  6. This weeks MCN has a pull out floor plan and new bike display guide (plus I'm too tight to fork out god knows what for the official programme!) Thursday can't come fast enough
  7. Going down on Thursday As I don't yet have my first bike or any gear, and have never been to a show before (although worked the catering at a couple in Sheffield!) I am well excited Fingers crossed I can pick up some cheeky bargains, anything saved on the gear can be added to the actual bike fund (or even advanced rider training if I'm feeling really flush!!)
  8. Yes you can't fail for the wrong turn, or a missed turn. A late change can be a minor depending how late it is and if you do the correct procedure. I got a minor on my car test for exactly that, forgot the instructor said turn right at the roundabout, and left it a bit late to get in the right hand lane, but still completed safely.
  9. Gutted!! At least you've sorted out another go in 2 weeks, sure you'll be fine next time now you know what to expect Chin up, get some practise and good luck for the next go
  10. Congratulations, and GUTTED at the same time...hope you're up and running soon...or bike shopping
  11. I could be up for that! No idea what I'm doing that day yet though, waaaay too far ahead to think about, I mean thats almost Christmas!
  12. I just bought the latest version plus dvd off a guy on ebay, cost me 3.20 + 1.95 p&p He has a few up search for user - davidjune2009
  13. Whoops...seen so many comments about adding location to profile didnt realise I hadnt done it I'm after a riding school with a good rep and/or decent prices for CBT and DAS, there's plenty in South Manchester but I have no idea which ones are reputable and there's 2-300 pounds price swing between them BUT as I have a company car so if there's a suggestion thats pretty much anywhere North West or West Midands I'd happily travel to know I'm getting a good deal!
  14. Your Motorcycle (Category A/P/AM) test has been booked at Pearson Centre - Salford at 12:30 PM on Thursday, November 08 2012. Eeeeek I've gone and done it now (theory only at this point ) I suppose next stage is CBT and DAS...I am spoilt for choice around Manchester, and as I get free diesel in the company car, travelling a bit to get a decent centre/bargain price (yes I am tight ) is not a problem I'm not in a mad rush as I'm old enough to not be effected by the 2013 changes, I can/may wait until the new year when I presume the riding schools will be a bit quieter and try and get a deal Anyway the reason for the post is I just wanted to see if anyone had any reccomendations
  15. You won't need to get a provisional, you already have that Wooooooooo I thought I needed to get a provisional there's a saving I'm sure I can find something else bike related to blow it on Yes I like the idea of doing it now but I figure I'll just have to do a refresher before I go out next year. I'm impatient as it is so I thought waiting a few months would be good for me. I figure if I learn in the crappy weather, I'll be more experienced and confident when the weather cheers up and I want to go out with other riders. Of course I could come off in the first week and regret the decision but as my Dad dropped his bike the first day he took it out as long as I beat that I'll take the gloating rights!
  16. Thanks guys, yes I drive all over the North of the UK, and had noticed there seemed to be an awul lot of learners out for this time of year! I think I might go with the waiting until next year option, see if I can get a deal! I'm still reeling that a provisional is 50quid....I'm just it was nearer 20 when I got my car one! Thieving gits haha
  17. Hi all! My first time on here, and I'm after a little bit of advice please I was planning to do my cbt and DA next spring, ready to pick up a bike and have a summer of weekends out and about! I've been reading up on the new license (to be fair I only got wind of the change this afternoon hence leaving it late to think about it!) and I can't decide if I should rush to do it this year and just have a refresher in spring next year before I go out riding again, or wait until 2013 as planned. I'm 28 and have had a car license since I was 17. I'm struggling to see a reason to rush the DA in 2012 as the changes wouldnt have a major impact on me (at least the way I read it). The only thing some people have said is that the cost of a DA will spiral next year, but if anything I would think it could go down as less people are old enough to take the course. What are your thoughts, stick to the 2013 plan or do it before the changes, and why? Thanks Al
