  1. The simple facts are that your husband is at fault , he hit a parked object that he should not have done, how & where that object was parked has nothing to do with it, it's the drivers responsibility to ensure that any manoeuvre they carry out is safe, so the driver of the moving vehicle is 100% responsible if they hit anything stationary.
  2. The reason is that cheaper modern batteries are fairly crap, the lighter build materials don't hold as much charge, I've also noticed that that all the last 3 I've bought for bikes & quad (sealed no-spill gel) show as "fully charged" at 12.4 volts, an old lead acid batteries fully charged was 13.2 volts.
  3. There's a bus lane for most of the road from mine in to Exeter city centre, but if you bother to look at the signs it says only at certain times of day, 9/10 cars don't use it even when open to them because most drivers don't pay attention & drive on auto pilot. Doesn't make sense to me why bikes can't use it, but I'm baffled as to why any biker would need to "sit in traffic", unless they wanted to.
  4. For the same reason that I Ride a Harley, Modern sports bikes are piss boring at legal speeds you need to be doing 3 figures before it gives the rider any real feedback. but a bike like that on a twisty B road needs to be "ridden" & will put a huge smile on your face at 50-60 mph
  5. Well I remember a trip back from South Wales to Exeter in the mid 1980's so the old Severn bridge, No high side vehicles, cars were down to single lane & bikes were diverted on to the pedestrian walkway, first gear only so you could ride with your feet down to try & stay upright, Most of the way down the M5 I was lent over at 45* to keep riding in a straight line, that was on a Honda 750K. It isn't nice but weather is just something else to learn how to deal with.
  6. Vertex VP20-3 12V 18ah, 176x156x87mm, + terminal front right, (or rear left). Fits loads of Harleys. This has never been fitted, it's a warranty exchange, but I had to replace the faulty one locally at the time, due to the battery age they would not refund only replace. not legal for me to post so £40 collected. 07989368022
  7. As I said it was the free cover from the bank, so I had no choice what was included, just the most basic roadside with up to 20 miles recovery.
  8. Drain it & have a look, different oils behave differently sat in a tank, firstly you need to confirm that it's 2 stroke, then make sure it isn't cloudy as some oil is Hydroscopic. If in doubt bin it, a bottle of oil is less than an engine rebuild.
  9. If it's free cover from the bank it will be basic, I've used the green flag on a car, but I was towing so they wouldn't recover me, but the guy (with my help) spotted the fault bypassed it, & the bodge got me home. I've used the bike recovery from Carol Nash in the past, which was excellent when a vacuum pipe to the fuel tap split, & is one of the reasons I've gone back to CN insurance. I spent 20 years with the RAC, 3 bike callouts, all had long waits, all insisted on sending a mechanic first, who all then said "we don't work on bikes we only recover them" so another long wait for recovery, 2 were fine but the 3rd, a local garage, then crashed on the journey home on the M5 .
  10. They're all FM "Magic Roundabouts" so the manufacturer has gone bust. Yes they're old(ish) but the actual polystyrene impact-padding is fine, as is the casing it's just the 2-3mm thick lining foam that's gone. I've tried the local upholsterer they declined as 'too fiddley'
  11. Something of a Tech luddite but forums contain a wealth of info, so joined to post a question. Been riding since 79, had all sorts, 2 strokes, 4 strokes, tourers, sports & trail bikes. Big fan of V twins, owned Guzzis, Dukes & Harleys, currently riding a Sportster 1200 custom flat track rep I built years ago.
  12. Does anyone know of a company that can replace the fabric lining of a helmet ? I've got several boxed brand new helmets that the thin foam in the lining has gone to powder & I'd like to get replaced. Thanks
