  1. Looks great, bit jealous would like to do one, , one day might improve my cornering! Not sure if my cb500 is up to it still lol:-) nice pics!
  2. I did mate the other night. I wouldn't give up it kept pecking my head lol. Happy the bikes good now. Not a job I would like again. Making sure I never over tighten a bolt again!
  3. Its all back together now and running well again. Another lesson learnt. Wish they wasnt so hard ha.
  4. The question now is do I try to replace the others! Do bolts weaken with age and heat? Not sure if it's worth chancing! !
  5. Dont think ill be out this weekend. The Mrs has plans ha. Im away in sunny Bournemouth the week after too so may well be the weekend after yhat one but will let you know.
  6. Thanks Stu yes I stink at posting pics too ha!
  7. http://i1328.photobucket.com/albums/w52 ... 6d6155.jpg Finally got it out against all odds. Thanks for all the advice everyone and appolgies if I come across stupid but theres always something you've never done and this was one of them. Prior to this I've done s full service, wheel bearings, , regulator/ rectifier new battery, new caliper, fitted new brake pads, stripped and fitted master cylinder kit after the garage forgot to put a return spring on my lever! Ive had to learn from the haynes manual as I go. Most of this if not all im sure is very basic but I got to start somewhere. Ive done ok until this. At least its done im just scared now of over tightening the new bolt as yes you guessed it I dont have a torque wrench! Again thanks everyone this forums been very helpful and patient!
  8. I think one issue ive noticed is with the bolt it has the thread inside the block and outside the block and dividing the two sides is a smooth middle section that sits flush with the engine block so no thread to the engine block can be seen or accessed. Ill have a bit more of a mess and see how the next few days go.
  9. Well I got a better blow torch from b and q today. Using plus gas still nothing been trying for an hour off and on. Its very hard to get in there. I have to grip it at an angle thats all I have with whats left of the bolt and the curve of the engine block. I may get lucky with the extractor and plusgas and the blow torch. But I can't just keep buying more tools. It looks like its just a job too far for me. Ive done more complicated jobs it just seems to be always rusted or broken bloody bolts I struggle with. If that fails im leaving it with the 3 bolts tbat are left and either live with it or sell it on I think
  10. thanks mate I saw that one just wanted to check it would be suitable and not buy something thats a waste.!
  11. can anyone recommend a basic burner, ive seen a lot of rubbish. cant afford a pro job but something that will do the job.
  12. will try it again with the extractor if not ill get a burner if that fails its to the garage or i wait until i sell the bike on and tell the next guy!!
  13. yes your right, the bolts on my grab rail where sheared when i got it and i tried an easy out tool but the drill bit broke on that. in the end i had to angle grind it off!!
  14. Go back and have a look at what Megawatt suggested....get a small blowlamp and you should be able to heat up around the broken stud....with patience you should be able to get it out...When I was in the trade I always used to actually slightly tighten it before I undid it crack the seal as it were... i know thats what the plus gas says but its very hard to get any sort of leverage from any angle, if the bolt extractor can get hold of it i have a chance. i need to buy a blow torch but at this point its starting to add up, oh the joys!
  15. sounds good, could i use a strong small drill bit to drill the bolt out in pieces to try to save the thread??
  16. No, that won't work, they're for hollow spaces. I really wouldn't think about drilling and tapping the engine, without the proper equipment it'll end in tears bloody hell, well the blanks there surely a garage could do it.
  17. ive also seen these could i use something like this rarther than buying a new threading tool? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/8mm-STEEL-RIV ... 3f087a9cfe

  19. had another idead whilst i wait for my tool to come, the exhaust is bolted by two bolts diagonally. on the engine block there are two opposite blank spaces where it could be drilled, threaded for two new bolts going diagonally in the opposite direction which would work fine. how hard would this be to do? would i need a special drill bit for the engine block? any recommendations for a threading tool? is it something a garage could do cheap??
  20. i filed down the bolt flat on both sides but it looks like ive got less bolt than i thought about half an inch! im hoping a bolt extractor will do it. having trouble getting grippers round it due to the engine block and its too small for a c spanner. extractor next then i might have to look at buying a torch great. going to soak it in plus gas till the extractor turns up.
  21. Your too good at this ha!! dont remember the flavoured sachets though!
  22. what were those ones that you add your own salt about! i mean why didnt they put a potato in a bag and say peel and cook your own!
