  1. Made the mistake of wiring my first set of grips directly to the battery. I altered the wiring after leaving them on not once but TWICE !!

Fairly simple process. Remove the live supply feeding the grips fuse holder from the battery and connect it to a switched live going into the back of the fusebox. To find the live side of the fuse in the fusebox, remove the fuse and check for 12v with a meter or small 12v bulb with the ignition on. Headlight fuse is a good one to aim for. There's no point wiring to the load/out side of the fusebox fuse as your grips will have their own one and you would then need to uprate the fuse in the fusebox to accommodate the extra load. Depending on the bike, there might even be an accessory connector for exactly this type of purpose (if you can find it !) that you could use instead. Never faffed around with a relay, overcomplicated for what's probably no more than a 3A current draw.

The additional load should be negligible to cause any problems overloading the switching contacts of the ignition switch.

  2. Guess you're talking about the Hollyville cafe ? LMRC do rides from there from time to time. I've gone from there before and there's been a number of other groups and the place had been packed out. Have also gone from there with a very small group and the place had been next to empty. I reckon Sunday morning around 10:00am is your best option to find groups there.

  3. Sadly never had the opportunity to meet Croft on one of your Bagel runs Phil and wasn't able to make the big one last weekend.

    Have left donation tonight.

Any chance of some LMRC T shirts with some thoughtful and tasteful wording in memory of with profits for the fund ?

  4. Thinking Sunday myself due to better chance of bargains although it's probably not a great idea if I want to curtail bike spending. Going to train it though, don't trust not getting my bike nicked at places like this.

Anyone want to meet up somewhere ?

  5. Is it not a requirement of M.O.T. ?

It's nice to know some twat is trying to get on the pillion seat with you so you can move aside. Don't like other vehicles breathing down my neck. They might think they have the best brakes and reactions in the world but I don't believe them.

  6. Does anyone have experience of aftermarket master cylinder as in my quest to sort my newly acquired RD125LC out, the previous owner replaced the master cylinder with a universal one which doesn't have a mounting for the mirror. He supplied the old master cylinder which I ordered a repair kit for which (you can guess where this is going) doesn't fit.

I know it's going to be a ball ache to get the right parts and am considering an ebay replacement. I can get the master cylinder for the front brake and a clutch lever to match for little more than I've already paid for the wrong repair kit.

    Good or bad idea ?

  7. Shame it's been painted in a non standard colour scheme.

Hope it proves as reliable as my last one I sold 25 years ago.

ooh cool, What colour is it now? Are you going to put it back to an original scheme?

    I miss square headlights.

Some sort of Red. Will check with the guy in case I need to repaint anything. If I decide on a full strip / rebuild it will probably go back to White/red like my old one used to be.

dare I ask how much it cost?

    Yeah, you can ask :P

    Great fun bikes

    I had one or two

    Why so many ?

Y & A reg have wrong (later) front end

  8. You say it runs fine for 2 mins ?

Just a thought, but does the engine have a temp sensor ?

Wonder whether the ecu isn't getting a signal back to tell it the engine has warmed up and leaned off the mixture.

Not sure what to make out of your comments about it wont start or bump these days so will ignore this.

Sounds a bit of a weird one though

  9. Soll - most LMRC ride leaders are south based...

They are! I need to hunt down some North based people to have a mini ride out together to the meeting point :) Ideally someone with a better sense of direction than me

There's a guy Niyi on LMRC just down the road from you around N16 that comes to quite a few events south based. See if he's willing to lead on a run to the start point. Hell I think he's even signed for for Phils bagels run on Thursday night that's going to Stoke Newington. Some people meeting at Ace on Sunday too for the wessons run unless the rain washes Phil away again.

  10. What clubs and ride out sites are people members of ?.

some of the rides are the other side of london and not Kent based, which can be a pain in the bum.

Bahhh, just means you get to ride more as you have to ride to the start point too, surely that's a bonus. Might meet me too if you do wimp out due to rain. I'll be at Hollyville. Personally, I'd call the other side of London M4/M40 Heathrow area. Not been to any further than Rykas and a good deal start at the Grasshopper/Swanley/Bromley

There's a facebook group you could try https://www.facebook.com/groups/22234791371/ hasn't had any active event on there though since the guy I bought my CBR off left for Australia last year. Think they have regular meets either fortnightly or monthly, plus I think there's regular meet ups at Oakdene on Thursday night ?

Failing that, start a facebook group of your own and try and get locals to join.

  11. Given the style of bike it is, do you off road with it and submerse the back end in mud/water ?

If you do, plenty of grease on the block and inside the swing arm and on the threads may be the answer to help keep water out.

If you don't, then the above along with a small hole in the caps as suggested above to allow water out has got to help.

  12. There's 3 things you need to pass MOD1.

    1) Good training/knowledge of exercises.

    2) Good skillset/machine control.

    3) A bit of luck on the day.

I did my DAS with a trainer who was confident in his methods he provided extra training for free if test failed. Of course the test fee wasn't included in that and we did spend one of our two days training just practicing for the exercises for the MOD1 itself.

Is there another school closer to the test centre you could use so the travel bit could be done on your own transport (car/125 or whatever) ? It might cut down the cost slightly ?

  13. LOL, another YBR. Been looking at RD125LC's myself but not sure I can warrant the cost but might talk myself into it if I get shot of the CBR.

    micron exhaust???

I actually owned a Mk1 RD125LC 28 years ago and bought a Micron for it at the time. My god it was loud. Microns and Allspeeds were all the rage then.

Sold the bike for £400 and threw in the Micron with it. All these years later, I wish I had kept it now :(
