    socket sets

These things are mega, I use mine loads - as do my chummies which is why I now have to go and buy another set because so many have gone walkies... The flexi ratchet spanners are pretty good too if you've got a tight spot or a funny angle to get in to.

    socket sets

I just chucked an old standard Halfords ratched handle away - not because it didn't work but because it didn't look good in my toolbox any more. Personally, I'd rank Halfords pro above crap-on as you're just paying for the brand and distributors to roam about in their nice, shiny rep vans. Now Facom is the daddy brand - would be nice if they weren't four times the price on Halfords though.
  3. Nah, that's huge. I've used old speaker wire before - it's only on for a second or two so won't even have a chance to get slightly warm if it's on the small side. It is tempoorary after all. I once got through and MOT by shouting "BEEP" when the tester asked me to press the horn...
  4. Go to Maplins/similar and get a spring return switch. Connect switch in line between the battery and horn. Book and pass MOT. Worry about horn problem later.

    fork seals

+1 on that. I'd use a flat bladed screwdriver under the lip and give it a bit of drift all the way round. Then see-saw lever it out.

    Chrome Polish

How about a hard wax polish?

    Mixing tyres

Got BT-014 on at the mo so they've got a few years on them. Sounds like most people would/do mix and match. Having seen just how old mine are I think I'll change them as a pair this time - especially seeing as it's been sitting in the same spot for a good while.

    Mixing tyres

Well, not every corner. I agree with what everyone says, the front/rear properties of the same tyre model can vary quite a bit - the front I already have is nice and grippy but the back is prone to sliding if I give it the beans out of a corner. Therefore I'd be best off replacing the rear with a good 'un, no? :-s Throw dual/tri compound technology and I'm even more confused!

    Mixing tyres

The time has come again when I need to start thinking about getting some new rubber. I've been replacing them in pairs with the OEM bridgestones until now but fancy the Pilot Power 3. The rear is a bit squared but the front is in pretty good shape so I'm considering changing just the back for now. What are your thoughts on having different brands/age tyres front and back on a sports bike?
  10. I could get down with that (providing I dig a bike out of the garage). Already got a day pass from the dorris sorted!
  11. Don't worry about filtering - panniers don't stick out much further than your bars or knees. I used to filter round the M25 all the time on my Goldwing and they're really quite wide.

    battery

Page 86 of the Yuasa catalogue says a 12 http://www.yuasaeurope.com/images/uploads/uk/downloads/Motorcycle_Battery_Application_and_Specification_Catalogue.pdf so that's what you should get! Does seem a little hefty but there we are.
  13. See here old bean: http://www.fatheadsmotorcycles.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/check_spark_plug_condition.jpg I would have said to check the idle but you've already done that! Air filter and plug are the next logical progressions. Which dash light is flickering by the way? Edit: Beat me to it Chris!

    Stupid Question!

+1 I did this as a kid and it f**king hurts.
  15. Or for an ultra cheap waterproofing option, just use one of those zip-loc food bad things from the supermarket. I used them for my passport/wallet/phone when I was travelling. Went through many mega rain storms as dry as a bone.
  16. Sorry, I don't understand this - surely Mrs GoG sorts out her own dings? :-s

    Chain wear

Fair one, I'll put my handbag away. Going back to what megawatt said - how does the manual say to have the bike when you're measuring the slack? Side or centre stand?
  18. Mr Fro

    Chain wear

What is this? Another Belladonna? Tim, my issue is that you corrected me without fully reading my comment. Look again and you will see that I mentioned a measurement from a neutral position yet you started on about the definition of slack.

    Chain wear

Does it really? Thanks for that Tim, I've really been struggling with basic English the past 30 odd years.

    Chain wear

Check your manual again - make sure it's not 25mm up and down from the natural chain position...
  21. Erm... No. If it originally had points and was upgraded to pulse/lightgate then you should pretty much be able to bung some points back on without much trouble. One question though: Why?
  22. Erm... What did you fill it with? The acid that comes with them should be just the right amount. You need to give the battery an hour or so for it to activate properly once you've filled it anyway.
  23. Hulloh! I'm playing musical cars with the mrs this weekend so have to go back and forth between the 'stow and Cambs so I thought I'd use the opportunity to drag her round a few bike places as I need some new gloves and lid. We'd either be going A14 via Bury st Edmunds or A12/A120 via Colchester. Ideally looking for somewhere with a few showrooms or one bigger one with a decent range in stock - the latter is preferable as I can see 'er getting bored of it really quite quickly! Cheers, Fro
  24. I deliberately didn’t book my first track day of the year (Cadwell tomorrow) because the BBC said it would be lashing it down. Oh look, the f*cktards have changed their minds and now it’s going to be sunny apparently. Unfortunately, I booked in an MOT for tomorrow and can’t bloody change it. Cocking BBC nobhead arseweases.
  25. You want to watch a video of a corner? Bit boring isn't it? Someone stuck up a vid of a traffic cone recently which was relatively entertaining.
