Failed my Mod 1 :-(

I did the same coming out of the slalom into the figure 8 the first time it did it. Apparently I was too slow. Keep your speed up a bit and keep slipping the clutch (rev like a learner was what my instructor told me)!!! You'll be fine next time round (especially if you have the same examiner)!! I flew through the second time round with no issues. Part 2 a week later was no problem either. It helps to slip through changing traffic lights and put a good bit of distance between you and the examiner!! Lol -
The autosol will remove small pits do a good clean up job but if the chrome is badly pitted the best option is to have the fork tube restored by a professional - they will regrind the tube and rechrome it. Not sure of the cost but I've seem a website offering this service somewhere in the greater London area.
