  1. For fitting the socket it makes no difference as without something plugged into the socket it isnt a circuit.

And as long as its not the type that has a light around the socket and you dont plan on leaving something plugged in permanently i wouldnt bother using a relay.

When connecting a battery always the + side first to prevent a short if you touched a metal part of the bike with a screwdriver or spanner.

  2. DVLA quite often only remove certain catagories, often the loss of a lorry or bus entitlement doesnt include removal of a car or m/cycle entitlement.

What they have done in this case is remove the ability to ride a large motorcycle restricting the rider to a smaller machine on a provisional licence which has further restrictions.

The fact that a 125cc is currently being ridden on a full licence is irrelevant as the licence holder could ride a larger bike if they chose.

  3. The onus is always on the driver/rider to only drive/ride when fit to do so regardless of which entitlements are on your licence.

You know from the attacks you have you could lose control of your bike in that knowledge if you rode and something happened you will be the one in trouble.

This is a decision you have to make dont expect DVLA to make it for you.

  4. From the symptoms you describe i would have to be brutaly honest and say i wouldnt want to share the road with you are you sure you could be in proper control of a vehicle during an attack?

What really dissapoints me is the fact DVLA appear happy for you to ride a motorcycle at all.

  5. Some insurers do require a bike to have cover in its own right to be covered under a 'other bike' extension this is because the 'other bike' extension only offers third party cover whilst riding so if you were to park up and get off the bike it would be uninsured.

This isnt about reading small print or understanding legal terms this sort of thing is included in plain english in a policy booklet or similar it is essential you read it.

If you dont understand it you must call your ins.co. Otherwise you are deemed yo have accepted the terms.

I have used the recording of my phone call to get a policy at the price quoted after the ins.co changed their mind saying they had made a mistake.

  6. In some areas MAG work very closely with local authorities and do achieve useful outcomes, they dont do this by protesting they do it by getting involved.

I have invited the local group to sit around a table and talk about local issues and get no reply just an annual f.o.i. Request for information we already freely share.

They generate hype and promote the feeling that bikers are victimised when that simply isnt true.

Hi-viz. The French had a go no one has ever suggested it will be introduced in the UK the Dft's own study into why drivers dont see bikers found that hi-viz made little or no difference.

Drain covers. Go google the stats highways arent fitting anti slip covers everywhere because slippery surface rates extremely low in the cause of motorcycle crashes.

  7. If it touches the back wheel removing the border will only give you another 22mm of clearance is that really worth a £60 fine?

You need to increase the rear preload wrongly adjusted suspension can seriously effect the bikes handling.

  8. All bikes are smoother with an open throttle being adjusted to match the speed required compared to opening and closing the throttle for the same purpose.

If you find yourself having to close and open the throttle for small adjustments in speed then you are in too higher gear.

Try using 3000rpm as your bottom line unless of course your in 1st and need to go slower.

You can still change up at around 5-6000rpm so thebike doesnt take off like a scolded cat ;-)

you will find the bike alot smoother and more stable as you will not shift weight from back to front and destabalise the bike.

  9. typical of the media this story is misleading it suggests courts are using their discresion and allowing these drivers to continue driving whereas in reality they are still driving due to the DVLA's failiure of the computer systems data sharing problems.

  10. As you have your CBT all you need to do is pass the theory test get some training and past both parts of the practical test.

DAS or Direct Access doesn't mean you have to do all the training in one go you could do it over several Saturdays for example, find a local trainer one that's recommended is best they will give you an idea of how much training you need to pass the test everyone is different, people learn at different rates.

the cost will of course depend on how much training you require.

As for insurance it won't be difficult to insure it's likely to cost a little more but you can get a quote before buying or even passing your test either ask your current insurer or go online and get a quote (you will have to say you have passed your test)

  11. im not suggesting it makes sense far from it as you say if you want to take a bike test here in the UK and you are a EU licence holder you can't.

but then again the EU licence system is a mess whilst i allows holders to drive anywhere in the EU the process they go through to gain their entitlements varies in member sates.

Take Italy as an example there is no CBT but you can gain your full moped licence

from aged 14 you can take a moped test and gain the full AM entitlement and ride a moped up to 50cc

from 16 you can ride up to a 125cc

from 18 you can ride any motorcycle upon passing your test of course

The Italian AM entitlement does stand here in the UK as long as you are 16

curiously though as a GB Car Licence holder you can rent a machine up to 150cc and ride it in Italy

  12. I think the issue is that whilst a full EU entitlement is transferable to other member states provisional entitlements are not.

If your a resident in the UK the EU licence can be exchanged for a GB licence which comes with the counterpart if you are a visitor in the UK you would need to go back to your resident Country and obtain a full entitlement to ride a motorcycle which you could then use in the UK

  13. We're splitting hairs, aren't we? It's a DSA approved process which can only be carried out by certified DSA approved instructors.

Safe to say, the DSA has something to do with it and in this instance he wants to complete a prerequisite for DSA testing.

CBT's are on the whole delivered by trainers that have been down trained by those authorised to run a training company (ATB's) so they are not even DSA approved let alone DSA examiners
