  1. Maybe lock up was a bit dramatic, more like a very sudden drop in power.

gear box has been a bit funny since I got the bike, i have to make two half clicks from 1st to get it into neutral, (the n indicator light comes on after the first click but it's still in 1st gear).

I'll have to get round to adjusting my gear lever hopefully that'll help.

  2. Hi guys and girls, had a bit of a weird one.

I've been making my usual commute, a couple of times I've been up shifting 3rd-4th and I could swear I felt the rear lock just for a millisecond enough to scare me.

Could this be down to lazy shifting? I couldn't recreate it afterwards.

  3. Well I hope she has learned a lesson ... Leave stuff like that to the men.

Aha because no man has ever inadvertently broken something? My fella is excellent at braking stuff, he doesn't go near my bike aha.

Probably worth cleaning the air box out and giving the foam a wash, crap does tend to gather in there and if she's taken if off could've shifted it.

  4. I did my brake fluid recently for the first time. Used a cheap one way bleeder off eBay.

Make sure you use loads of rags and clean up really well. I dropped fluid on my pads when I pulled the hose off, had to buy new pads.

Also don't over tighten the bleed nipple, only needs nipping up, I thought I over tightened mine turns out there was a bit of residual fluid coming out the threads, give everywhere a good spray with brake cleaner.

It's relatively straight forward, plus you can give the calliper a good cleaning while your there.

  5. Hey,Before I start I must stress I am not a racist.

We live in Grimsby which I now called Polandby. Walking round this town you'd think you were in some Eastern European country. Almost every other voice you hear is foreign. At the school my son goes to more than 50% of his class is Polish, Romanian etc

My daughter is due to start primary school in 2 years time and we will also face the same problem. I can not tell you how annoyed I'll be if some polish etc child gets a place over my ENGLISH daughter. I've lived here all my life, worked since I could do, and paid tax for 14 years (I'm 30). I think I'll be more than a little entitled to be p#ssed off. A lot of, if not all, the foreign parents at his school don't work, claim benefits which they havent worked for and in my opinion contribute f#ck all to this country. Yes there's English equivalents but at least there bloody English!

Britain has gone to the dogs. We are slowly becoming a minority in our own country. If you speak out about it your racist.

    Shaun.

    :?

Aha anything that starts with the words 'I'm not racist but...' Is flat out garunteed to be totally racist.

  6. Yeah come to think of it I asked if dropping my bike would twist my forks last time...

I've now realised they're probably aluminium too... Bugger, new/used bars aren't too pricey though, next question is it safe to ride to work like this, could my bars snap?

  7. Finally managed to get my brake pads installed. While waiting it got blown into the fence on the driveway on a windy day last week, (bike was on the side stand with the cover on it, it got blown over to the opposite side against a wire fence and perched there for a bit)

Went for a test ride, my left arm feels weird, like its higher than the other. When I get back I check sitting on the bike with the bars straight, the left handlebar is higher than the right like they are twisted away from each other. (As if your pushing the left side and pulling the right side...) I loosen the pinch bolts on the handlebars as I noticed it was a little off centre there but that hasn't resolved the issue.

I really can't see how the handlebars have twisted as the bike didn't even go over, unless they're paper mâché. Could the forks being twisted a little have this effect? I would have a go at re centering them but I'm missing a big spanner for the top bolt I think.

  8. Hi again folks, the other day after adjusting my chain tension my rear brake locked up, couldn't spin the wheel at all. I did slacken the adjuster for the break first, but anyway I pushed on the rear brake pedal quite hard and something gave way and the wheel freed up. Since then it's not felt right, I braked quite hard coming into traffic and something 'popped' and their was suddenly way more freeplay.

I've readjusted a few times but the brake feels really hard, there's no progressive braking really it's seems to go from all to nothing no matter how much or little freeplay Stopping power is really reduced but it was enough to stop me rolling backwards down a hill (thankfully!).

    Any suggestions guys?

  9. Yep leave it, if it's an easy fix it begs the question why he didn't just do it himself and make a little more money on it. If you aren't mechannicaly minded move on and look elsewhere.

  10. It's hard to tell in the pics but there's a steep slope at the end of the drive that makes it look a bit closer than it is on the road but it probably does need lifting up a touch, it's a pita fiddling though.

I'm pretty stumped on how to take the reflector apart to investigate :(

Maybe a new headlight assembly, and switch to h4 while I'm at it then?

  12. Sorry third thread complaining about my crappy headlight, since swapping it with a halogen its a little brighter but the high beam pattern is like mushroom shaped, which isn't helping anything. The low beam is fine. but the high beam has two pretty substantial dark spots. I'll try grab some pics when it's dark to demonstrate.

Only thing I can think of is the little "cap" on the halogen, I know the light at the tip isn't meant to be useful but could that be it?

There's no adjustment on the reflector besides physically angling the assembly up and down.
