  1. do you refer to a re-chrome? If so that's out the window. They are not to bad after a bit of metal polish and as long as you don't stand to close to the wheel
  2. I've soaked in WD40, then used soft wool fiber then used soft brass wheel on a drill. Got to this. after some metal polish from a distance it isn't so bad. But is there a way to make this baby look like new?? http://s3.postimg.org/a7rrm0bwf/image.jpg
  3. Oh and what I thought was rust was inside the res, where you pour the oil in, looked like a thin layer of orange, though not dried out, more like liquid, not sure, I will try get a picture.
  4. I'm not 100% sure if it is rust, just looked a little orange. What you think? Major issue? Spray it with something? Run oil through it? I still have the old oil actually... Should I do something with that?
  5. So I took the bike apart about 10 months ago, everything! I only drained the oil about 1 to 2 months ago, to lighten the V-TWIN while i work on it and to allow me to put it on its side etc. So not sure why but I was looking into the oil in section, and I think I could see some surface rust? Not sure, this could be the oil residue (I hope). What you guys think? Thanks.
  6. I am in the process of polishing my engine, the fin areas are too much hassle for my liking, I was going to sand it as much as possible between fins, then paint it a dark matt grey, then sand the fin edges with a sanding wheel or similar.. This sound like a good method?? Can anyone suggest anything??
  7. Just in the process of polishing my engine, it's going to be finished to a smooth glass like touch, how do people go about maintaining the shine? Also what about chrome wheels? Clear coating or just regular cleaning?
  8. I'm looking to use my drill or dremel. And then move onto the wet and dry paper to polish. What drill attachments will let me take care of the aluminium and also get deep inside the fins. There is pretty heavy oxidization and i think to start off with a drill attachment will be just fine. Thanks
  9. Maybe a cleaning sollution? Like WD or 100% rubbing Alochol? I have all holes bunged up with the ever professional blue roll. will this do? Also what scotch brite parts are best, seems there is an entire range.
  10. Was going to get a scotch brite wheel for drill and sand down the engine then move onto wet n dry, read around that it can leave damaging particles in your engine which are 40 microns (whatever that is) small and can wear down your engine faster than Usain Bolt. I want something to start the sanding off, then move onto 600 grade and 1000 paper. What's peopels thoughts on scotch brite and any other suggestions for my drill, specifically anythihg that will get in between my fins. Thanks.
  11. Thanks guys, my friend took it to his shed!! And he used a hack saw blade, simple!! The screw was ali and quite soft, a hot butter knife might have done it! I think I am going to replace every single nit and bolt on my bike seriously. Found some right soft ones tonight! Not good!
  12. Yeah with a Demil? And use a flathead to unscrew? Gonna get some WD today. Love the smell of that stuff.. Childhood memories!!
  13. Hi guys. I am stripping and rebuilding my bike. Full clean, polish and some other mods. Anyway issue with my carb. http://i60.tinypic.com/ieh1qx.png The 2 screws that hold the two carbs tightly together - well one come of fine, the other one was super tight and ended up kind of rounding off, there's still a bit of depth to the head though. Any suggestions? We did try banging a flathead driver into the head but that kind of didn't work. http://i58.tinypic.com/314avic.png Any advice is kindly accepted.
  14. No shed, I left it outside teh other night but was worried the neighbourhood cats might try to get in and get high or something. I heard it's good for cleaning your bike too. Definitely don't want to just waste it and definitley not throwing it!
  15. Yeah - Ordered liquid Methylene Chloride and knew it could not go down the toilet! Too many little fish in the sea who would suffer. I currently have a sealed tub in my space now wondering what to do with it. Also have a can of petrol out of my tank, what is the best way to dispose of this (I do not want to burn it as will be a waste and harm to the environment). So for example even something as piss poor as Nitromorse will need neutralising?
  16. Some of you may know my bike is in pieces, nuts bolts washers you name it. I started to use wrire wool and heat gun on the frame (which works a treat) taking paint off, but have some chemical stripper coming soon that I believe will work. I heard using chemicals on the metal work can caue issues with the chemcials reacting with new paint or clear coating that goes on. Is there a procedure for wiping all chemical off or is this only to worry about if you say dip your bike in an acid bath (something I will not be doing). I am happy to carry on with wire wool but when it comes to the harder bits might need some help with chemicals.
  17. Thing is there's so many hard to reach places on this frame I will not be able to access with a wire wheel. In all honest I don't want to end up brealing my back getting paint off.
  18. Looking to use heat gun on motorbike frame. Is this a good idea or not? I don't want to sand blast it, nitromorse isn't working, I don't want to sand it by hand. Just want a fairly straihgt forwaed process.
  19. Hi guys. I got the Methylene Chloride and it's a liquid that does not seem to stick at all, not sure maybe I need the paste version.] Anyway I have a question, would a heat gun be advisable? As would the heat be enough to mess my frame up? Like the welds and anything else?
  20. I have actually been reading on paint stripper. The active ingredient that eats the paint is called Methylene Chloride which was actually banned in the EU in 2012. It's possible to buy on ebay and other stores but serious concern is advised as there have been a number of deaths linked to it. It's reccomended that you use it outside, have professional breathing masks and gloves.
  21. An idea was heat gun, would this be a good idea with welds and such? ?
  22. What do you mean? I'm not scamming anything here. And what about fake paint stripper? I am looking for a product, I need something that will eat paint. What about spilling brake fluid?
  23. Brillaint thanks. I'm looking forward to getting stuck in and learning about how all this works!!
  24. Me and a friend who I figured was experienced stripped my bike 2 weeks ago, I want to strip, clean, oil, repaint and build back ready for summer. We did various steps like drain the coolant and I think that's about it. Didn't drain the oil or drain the carb (just seen some videos now). How late am I to do this? What other required protocols should I have taken if any? Can anyone be so kinf to suggest things I could do now to my bike which is in over a hundred pieces in my mill? The plan is to do things like clean carbs, sand all frame and other metal down, repaint and clear coat, clean up engine and pretty much all the other lovely shiny stuff But while it's in this state should I ahve made sure to drain oil (which it will need anyway so this has to be done), but does the carb need draining? And anything else?
  25. You are not working for them are yo? I'll have a sniff around ebay for these products (not literally though).
