  1. So im turning 18 years old tomorrow  and have been very interested in doing track days, not racing just enjoying speed on the track rather than me riding like a twat on the roads.

Now after looking at a few tracks and requirments it says i need a full unrestricted licence, which is not possible since i am on a A1 and cant go higher till 19/21 :/ Then i found alot of tracks accept acu licence.

Could someone please explain to me what acu licence allows me to do, Like will i be allowed to ride a 500cc on a track? What am i restricted to?

I found the form on the acu website but its rather confusing, specifically section one. which parts do i tick? http://www.acu.org.uk/Uploaded/1/Docume ... 20Form.pdf

  2. So on thursday my daelim roadwin r 125 broke down in st.Albans area, had to get towed back to heathrow. Bike just cut out at a traffic light, wouldn't start waited 5 mins then it started again. Rode for about a minute then it cut out again and the rear wheel locked up, I quickly pulled the clutch in and rolled to a stop. Bike simply won't turn over, tried push starting.

Note I had been riding 7 hours in pissing down rain.

The electrics still seem to work e.g the dash, lights, heated grips.

The breakdown guy thought the engine may have seized so i tried some trouble shooting. I put it into its top gear and tried to turn the wheel, I was able to do this. I then tried turning the crankshaft with a socket and it turned.

Originally this was the sound i was getting when i hit the ignition https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GwcjR2yKBYE

When i turned the crankshaft and hit the ignition at the sametime this was the sound i was getting https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pLvRaT41ie0

now the starter magnetic switch (i think thats what its called) Is making a very weird noise and is vibrating quite alot. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXrE4h2D91U

Is it possible that its the magnetic thing is faulty and not providing enough power to the engine, because there was a few times where for a split second i would have a sudden loss of power.

Which was the same thing that would happen when i had my old dodgy battery, when it died i would have to keep push starting it till it had enough power to keep the engine going. (took like an hour)

  3. AVG K3 SV. Tons of vents which are very effective and a sun visor.

Purchased this helmet yesterday, Very nice helmet, very impressed. Also came with a anti fog thing which they fitted for me at the store which surprised me i dont have to keep lifting the visor up to breath at traffic lights :D

    btw its agv not avg

  4. Today i went to start my bike and it wouldnt, sounded like it was dying. I do courier work on my motorcycle, After working all morning i came home for a 30 minute break. After i went to start my bike back up, the lights on dial turn on etc, pressed ignition. it tried to start the engine then stopped. Tried again and it was just making a quite noise, sounded like it was coming from the battery area. The lights on the dials also dimmed and flickered when i tried the ignition.

After it just would start, kept making the quite noise. had to call into work and cancel my jobs :/

About 2 hours later i went to try again and it started fine, I went for a quick ride, stopped engine and started fine.

Is this a sign that my battery is dieing?

luckily this happened at home and not when i was on the opposite side of london.

  5. I guess it would be a good idea to just pick up a cheap one for work. I have just been looking at some insurance quotes and WOW i was not expecting it to cost so much, around 3k for courier insurance. just so i can carry some items in a backpack/top box. its like quadruple what i pay at the moment.

L plates don't help there, to an insurer you are an unqualified learner, planning to rack up epic mileages in all conditions.

Your employer may check/insist on the correct insurance. If they don't and you are not wearing any kind of uniform you could chance it on normal insurance but if caught by old bill your bike may be squashed. You definitely want goods in transit insurance that covers you against losing or damaging whatever you are carrying, without that you lose some small parcel that turns out to be a £99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 piece of unobtanium you are screwed.

Though check if the employer provides any of this (I doubt they do though as you are using your own bike I'm guessing you are "self employed").

Like I said though send Marmalade43 a message he can give you actual good advice and may be able to point you toward the best places to get insured, etc.

I spoke to an a VERY helpfull person over the phone, originally the quote he recieve was around 3k which he also thought was a stupid price, he was then able to have it brought down to 1.1k massive drop in price. he changed it to courier/food delivery driver and added the food delivery driver to my part time job and it dropped dramatically. Very happy :D paying only £136 a month.

  6. Corrugated plastic. Make a pizza delivery box (google it, it's easy). Reinforce the base and sides with some old metal (for base make a square frame around with another piece running up the centre, or use the side panel from a PC case). Drill through the metal you use for the base, drill through pillion seat. Use a couple of hefty bolts to secure it to pillion seat. Add bungees/gaffa tape for effect. I've filled these corrugated plastic boxes to the brim with pizza's and 2 litre drink bottles and they remained intact.

You're nuts doing it on what looks to be a street fightered Korean 125 delivery work kills the most well made of bikes. Last year I killed the gearbox on a Honda doing pizza (and wrote one off twice in mechanical failure accidents before writing myself off in another accident)..... have fun

If you are working "self employed" (using your own bike you probably are) then you also need courier insurance and GIT insurance (goods in transit).

PM Marmalade43 on here for better info/advice (I only did Pizza) he is a semi-mythical couriering God (and a good guy as well).

Edit to add - Don't buy a CBR125 for working. Work bikes need to be cheap as hell to run, maintain and repair because you will be repairing it a lot and the consumables wear will be nuts. Honda Innova 125 is the choice for delivery 125.... it's a new take on the old cub. If that's to fancy for you then get an actual Honda C90 cub. They also need to look shit because you can't always park by the door of your delivery so theft is a big issue.

Thank you for your advice, Your solution LOL  good idea but i sadly can not do it, The company ill be working for do regular inspections on your bike to make sue its representable and mainly just to make sure your not driving a rust bucket around.

 i dont know why but i really hate scooters and that c90 is not much better. I know it would be the most practical option but i cant just cant imagine me riding one.

  7. ive just had the replace the sleeve and clamp with a stainless steel since the one the previous owner put on it is a piece of junk and was not even sealing it. now i would like to use a hanging strap around the exhaust to the original mounting hole under the passenger foot peg and get rid of the one which is connected to the passenger hand rail. But the exhaust is sticking out to much so im not able to so im wondering if i can shorten some of exhaust pipe.

  8. just not sure how i will connect the new wiring, never did anything like it before.

Print out the wiring diagram to help identify the correct colours etc and get yourself a crimping tool and connectors to reconnect the wires to whatever headlight unit you to choose to fit.

If it were me, I'd leave the existing one in place and get it working before I thought about replacing it and adding to the problem.

You need something like this... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Crimping-Tool-Set-Wire-Stripper-Cutter-Connectors-Cable-Ties-Pillers-Crimper-/350737187248 and suitable connectors

i have got the current one working, but its a cheap tacky headlight and it dosnt even fit on the brackets properly, the previous owner cracked a part of the headlight forcing it to fit :/

just need to replace it now.

  9. Most things are doable. Have you got a drawing of the rear suspension components.

It's a pretty standard chinese CBR copy. Drawings?

its not Chinese...... neither is it a cbr copy.

I am trying to help mate, you're not, so let the guy provide drawings. Not every rear suspension set up is the same.

i am not to sure what drawings you would like but heres a couple pics of the suspension

here is also a link to the manual http://www.manualslib.com/download/4053 ... jf125.html

i dont think theres much I can do to it.

  10. Could just be a dead spot. My Blackbird has a known dead spot with stock exhausts at around 5,000 revs where it'll go from accelerating well, to levelling off and then at about 5,250 revs it'll pick up quickly again. I just put up with it, or I've got some after market exhausts that I sometimes put on and it goes away again.

Is it spluttering at all? Wondering if you might have a leak in your air box manifold or something like that. Check your bike model for known dead spots first though, easy cuz you don't have to get off your arse on Google!

my bike has got a custom exhaust on it, could this be the reason? no its very smooth when it looses power/regains.

  11. ive had the same problem on my 125, randomly happens at high speed. i checked my chain and it was very loose! was like 5cm chain slack  ive tightened my chain earlier today and it dosnt seem to happen any more.

was it like sudden drop in power then u would let go off the throttle then pull again for it to carry on normally?

edit: just rode to kfc and it happened while i was doing about 50 :/ i have to let go of the throttle then roll back on :/

  13. privately, the previous owner used a crappy choc block to connect the wires to the headlight. and it didnt help that the headlight he put on there is a shitty quality. I got a feeling he crashed the bike and made it into a street fighter. the radiator i didnt notice untill i removed a radiator cover which he had zip tied over it :/ might try straighten the fins or just put the cover back over it.

for the headlight i dont really like that circular bulb look. interested in these two.

just not sure how i will connect the new wiring, never did anything like it before.

  14. Looks like a nice cheap'n'nasty headlamp unit has been fitted......and bodged to fit as well......throw it in the bin and either get a standard headlamp unit or one from a reputable manufacturer......and get a crimper and decent crimp connectors when fitting the new one......

thanks for the reply. i bought the bike about a month ago. The mounting points on there are 8 inchs apart. what would you recommend i get?

  15. What bike is it?

    Wiring looks nicely bodged.....

Yeah.....the airflow through the rad will be a bit restricted.....but, if it's not overheating or leaking I'd leave it alone......a rad cover may stop further damage.....but some rad guards can restrict the airflow, so it may reduce the flow further and start to cause some overheating issues.....

it is a daelim vjf 125

  16. Yesterday night i was riding home and the front of my bike started smoking, had no idea what it was pulled over but because it was dark i could really check to see what the problem was, i noticed a bulb was of off so thought maybe just the bulb blew or worse the wires melted.

well today i took it part to check what was damaged and well i was quite shocked. i dont know much about bikes only started riding a couple weeks ago so explaining is kinda hard so ill post some pics of the damage below
