  1. I had a big career change in my 30s as I was bored of what I was doing. I figured that as I was likely to work until my late 60s might as well do something that I enjoyed as money isn't everything. I had to make a few sacrifices at first and go back to Uni in the evenings while I was working full time but soon worked my way up. I'm pretty thick so it shows that anyone can do it if you put your mind to it... Good luck - hope you find your dream job!
  2. Just goes to show - some of the best biking roads in the country are right here in London.... ahem...
  3. Unless you have the misfortune of being anywhere near Southern trains. I commute into central London everyday rather than have to rely on their service.
  4. Riding from south east to south west London is too much of a mission! I'll be riding as far out of the city as I can.
  5. Anyone want a free Givi rack for a Ducati Multistrada? I think it's a Givi SR310 and fits 03-07 models. Postage about £6, or can collect. No free mounting plate or free topbox, just the rack/arms I'm afraid.
  6. I spent a summer working in the West Bank a few years ago and also travelled around Israel. I felt safer there than I do walking through Camberwell or Elephant and Castle.
  7. Cheers chaps - much appreciated
  8. Anyone got any recommendations for decent quality pads? I need to replace a set very soon and am wondering if you really get what you pay for - I've always bought cheap ones
  9. Keep at it! All of sudden it will just fall in to place and you won't look back - except over your shoulder just before overtaking...
  10. Anyone have any use for a very well used large Oxford Aquatex cover for a bike with a top box? The clip on the elasticated strap is broken and the cover is grubby but no rips or tears. If anyone wants it, you'd be very welcome to collect or I could post it for about £5
  11. This is my favourite intro - partly due to the fact that it's the intro that my football team run out to...
  12. I went on a few meetup groups and would also recommend it - met lots of nice people and had some good days/nights out.
  13. No idea for a pub I'm afraid - but looks like it could be a great day out with the Vase on before the Trophy. Got to fancy Grimsby though
  14. All that has helped me make my mind up - I've decided to get a badger.
  15. I'm heading away for a long weekend soon and wondered what opinions were as to pros and cons over a tail bag Vs panniers? I've always previously worn a backpack and want to avoid that if possible.
  16. I recently changed my DHW heat exchanger on my 15 year old Halstead Ace boiler - it was a doddle, took half an hour with me doing it very slowly. Got the part new on ebay for £40. This was after British Gas telling me the parts weren't available and trying to flog me a new boiler.
  17. There isn't a Tube station in West Wickham. If you're heading south east you might be better off going on the London Overground - which is the orange line on the Tube map. You could park in a side street around Crystal Palace, Penge, Sydenham, and get on the Jubilee Line at Canada Water. Not many Tube stations in south east London, and I can't think of any with car parks.
  18. Congratulations! When I found out I had a little one on the way, I sold my FZ1S, MT-03, and Aprilia Shiver to free up some cash to put towards a loft conversion. Bought an old ZZR600 and a Z750S instead, which both do the job well enough for me. Would never 'give up' biking - it's part of who I am, and will be taking the youngster out on the back as soon as his feet can reach the pegs.
  19. I must admit, I'm looking forward to the day that I sell up and move out to the sticks somewhere. In the meantime I'm happy for house prices to keep going through the roof. At the moment all my work is focused in London, so it wouldn't suit to move out just yet. There will be a long list of things that I'll miss about living in London when I do leave, although there will be a longer list of things I won't miss.... Sevenoaks is lovely - but not much cheaper
  20. I visited the north once, it wasn't too bad - I went all the way up to a place called 'Watford'. Very close to Scotland apparently.
  21. He sounds like a right jumped up little shit. Unfortunately, you have to use force which is proportionate - so you'd risk prosecution if you did smack him one, even if he is on your property. Just a heads up, if you do threaten him (and I probably would if there was no one around) twats like this can do crafty things like record things with cameras, phones, even an Apple watch etc - so just bear that in mind. Stand your ground and good luck.
  22. 24th is good for me - looking forward to it, hope we get some good weather!!
  23. I've had two bikes with covers on blown over by the wind in the last three years - one knocked a small wall on my driveway over and cracked the clutch cover. I'm not taking any chances tonight as there are 60mph winds forecast I've decided to take the covers off and hope for the best
  24. Good work - Congrats! My first big bike was a Fazer, great bike to start on, and will keep you entertained for ages
  25. Looks like a good route - but 'scattered heavy, possibly thundery, showers' according to the BBC Weather. Tomorrow looks like it's going to be the best weather of the weekend.
