Thanks for advice all... Well he has paid and it's in my bank, and yes I will now say BANK TRANSFER only as it saved me counting cash and risking bob the courier sliding a few cheeky 20s for himself. End of day I have a paper trail of texts and ebay chats to prove anything. Thanks. Sad to see my bike go but I want/need a yacht!!

New Bike - Need Peace of Mind.. Alarm and Tracker...
thevoyager replied to thevoyager's topic in Motorbike Chat
£36 a year not bad is it! I will look into them, and yes good point on the wiring thing. -
Bike is a CBR1000RR - 2006. As you know, not a ton of space to hide things, so I would like a tracking system which will be able to hide somewhere, if it was small enough it could maybe go deep in the fairings? Ideally it will be able to charge from the bike running (so never needs messing with). Be continually tracked via sms or whatever latest tech is now via phone. Small and light with minimal wiring and set up. Ideally no monthly costs, just a pay as you go when you want to see where it is. Affordable (£100-150?) And the alarm similar, small, light, minimal, doesn;t have to be as concealed but ideally hard to get to and dismantle. And affordable (£100?) Any 2022 recommendations?

Cheers all, LIDL charger looks ok, will see if they have it in local tomorrow.
-
NOTED - ENGINE OFF - So someone said riding it alone won't fully charge it back up? I don't have a charger at the moment, obviously I can buy one but is a cost I could do without at this moment.

Left main beam on Have read conflicting advice online.. I expect conflicting advice here. But is this safe to do or are car amperages too high for a bike. I have a 2006 CBR1000rr.

Good point, it's like RAW DENIM, you buy them and they feel like you are wearing 30mm corrugated cardboard pants, but you break them in and they create joints specific to you over time... I guess I could get lucky and maybe get a 80% match, but the ones I have tried feel like a 50% match to my body, I would look silly and would most likely put myself in danger as pants not allowing me to move right. Yeah might just look for textiles right now or as new as possble leather! Thanks

Tbh I want internal padding too, hips and knees... You know the hard foam stuff... I am wanting leather pants (I suppose for aesthetics as well as proper protection... I bought an RST textile jacket with hard armour internal inc back.. A lot of the leather pants don't seem to have internal padding.. I want the pants to fit like a glove and buying on ebay is going to be too time consuming, meant to be getting insured this weekend and now I am minus pants! Can't be paying £300 new at the moment.

Bought a few pairs of ebay now, my waist and leg but the hard knee sliders always seems to be either middle or slightly upper calf / shin area. What's going on!? I do see some people wearing them half way down shin but seems counter, are they not ALSO meant to help protect the knee area or just simply for sliding sideways. Surly these need to be more on the knee itself... Any suggestions on buying used leather pants with knee slides??? I won't be going on track, was more just for protection. Also none have been a super tight snug fit. I am a good size, medium build, not skinny not overweight. Can old pairs stretch? I just want a pair that hug me and have no loose bits!

Motorbike Insurance - Locked up in self storage vs in garage
thevoyager replied to thevoyager's topic in Motorbike Chat
It is checked and asked.... I can freey take the bike all day long... They are insured for it. -
In a bid to save space in the garage was thinking of getting self storage lock up, have seen a place now, it is locked up in a warehouse and in it's own locked up 50sqft room. My question is do the insurance folk see this is an extra bonus (i.e cheaper insurance)? The fact it is essentially locked up 4 times.. Main metal gate, main building door, inside unit door, and then locks, alarms and tracker on the bike itself... You can't get any more secure than that can you.

Does anyone do this? Or is there going to be too much heat?

Ideal bike to tour across Europe on? Uk to Croatia July...
thevoyager replied to thevoyager's topic in Motorbike Chat
Nice bike but I wanting to stay away from that angular adventure look... TBF I think the GSXR 1000 is looking more likely.. It's 2003 model, from a dealer... so can have some peace of mind as would have been serviced and comes with some warranty. Plus, I love that slight colourful track bike look but without it being in your face... Oh and it looks like my budget might go up to 3k to 4k.. -
Ideal bike to tour across Europe on? Uk to Croatia July...

OK So I have settled on a bike... A Yamaha R1! 2007. Jokes aside, I sat on one and started it up in a used bike dealership, WOW! Most likely not an ideal candidate to go across Europe, my forehead was on the front wheel! I went to look at an NC750s and a V Strom 650... I wasn't keen on the V Strom styling, and NC750 got the same comment from rep as about 10 other people, "it's a bit soulless", this made me look at others as there was over 300 bikes on display. Bikes that stood out.. 2003 Suzuki GSXR 1000 K3 2013 YAMAHA FZ8 FAZER 800 2008 YAMAHA FZ6 FAZER 600 There was some nice Ducati also but out my price range. I know I started on a boring NC750 but I also want to mix in something with a bit of grunt.. The FAZER8 OR THEIR 1000 is looking like a nice choice..? Any advice? -
Ideal bike to tour across Europe on? Uk to Croatia July...
thevoyager replied to thevoyager's topic in Motorbike Chat
I need a bike probbaly in the next 3 weeks I think, so will just have to accept my position in the market. I have now seen the difference in the 750x and the 750s, I quite like the S styling more, any other crucial differences between these I should know. Stand over height seems one but I am 5,7 so in the middle, and consider myself a good rider, having rode bikes since I was 10, and prefer a lot more space on my bikes an S could be the one?! -

Yes, I bet he just like his bike with a little more grunt, my main priority is economical and comfort, I do like the look of the NC750..... Do they hold their value well? Also, how is the bike market now, still overpriced from the whole covid ordeal / "shortage of chips' ordeal? -

The NC750 looks good, I met a guy today who said the NC is soulless compared to the V STROM 600..... Anyone back this up? He said in the mid ranges it just isn't very exciting, the higher mpg is a better trade off tho.. -

I found a 2016 V STROM with 48,000 miles on for asking price £3400.... 48k is a lot right? I am open to older models also.. But £2500 is my low price range, £3500 max I would say. Would a BMW GS also be a good candidate? They seem to have been granted a reputation since that fella guy did that thingy me bob around the upside down world thingy. -

Thanks both.. I like the look of that and the price looks in my range too. Which one would be the more economical and how many miles per tank and mpg could I expect on this machine? (Just googled it - 78mpg average with around 300 miles per tank, not too bad. My old Shadow 600 VLX only had 100!) -
Can anyone share any suggestions for good bikes to ride across Europe... I would imagine mostly quiet country roads and some highway, but also possibly some light trails for off grid camping etc. Ideally it needs to be economical, big tank for fuel, hold panniers of some sort, have or be able to put all terrain tyres on and be a good all round bike for long distance and be quite comfortable. My plan would be to tour for 3 weeks to 4 weeks and then sell the bike when back, as I might be going away in November for the winter. Thanks.
