  1. well ive managed to wire it up and its working reasonably well ,don't know for how long as its Chinese ,but its gave me experience of how to wire one in if I want to buy a better one

  2. thanks for reply no name on tacho I managed to google the same one ,its Chinese and hopefully ive found how it is wired the long red and black are for the bulb I tried them across a battery and the tach o lit up ,the yellow back is the signal wire that you attatch to the coil negative side the other vtwo are power and ground ,I'm going to have a go tomorrow the coils are not that hard to get to ,ive changed them before , the signal wire on the xv535 is either orange for the rear cylinder or gray for the front ,will let you know how I get on ,you know what Chinese parts can be like

  3. ive got a universal tacho that I would like to fit to my xv535 has anybody fitted one there was no wiring instructions it has five wires a long red one a long black one a short green one a short black one a short yellow /black one ,I'm sure the yellow black one is the signal wire that connects to the coil I'm not sure about the other wires any help appreciated

  4. thanks jrh you are right ive seen bp7es on ebay ,that might solve what I'm looking for ,its strange but my 1982 Honda cm400 had resistor plugs and caps and it run well ,but if it was a wee bit hard to start the plugs fouled quite quickly ,ive took the resistors out of the old caps and put a small piece of metal in the bike started ok ,but I think since ive bought brand new ngk resistor type plug caps I may as well use them and try the non resistor type plugs from ebay

  5. ok I may try google ,maybe this will help ,the owners manual states the plugs to be bpr7es ,the resiostor type and I believe the original caps to be resistor type also ,the Haynes manual states the plugs to be bp7es non resistor type plugs ,its puzzling ,perhaps you were right in saying that some engines run ok with resistor type plugs and caps ,although ive heard that running resiasteot plugs and caps may damage the tci unit

  6. thanks for reply ,you hear so many conflicting theories the caps I believe are 5ohms but no idea about plugs I will take one out and attempt to test it should the plug have THE SAME VALUES As the cap ,I know you saisd some engines are fine with resistor plugs and caps ,I'm just wondering if mine is ,as I said the original plugs were non resistor type ,but te capas were

  7. the original caps are resistor type ,but the original spark plugs were not ,now the only plugs I can get ,are resistor type plugs have been told ,not to run bike with resistor plugs and resistor caps ,if you have resistor spark plugs then you don't need resistor spark plug caps ,this is what I'm trying to find out ,if its true or not

  8. hi I'm refurbishing some things on my xv535 ,now need some advice ,ive heard that it if you have resistor type I have bpr7es ,its better to have non resistor spark plug caps and advice on this ,ive heard its better to take the resistors out of the caps and replace with a bit of wire or a nail is this correct

  9. thanks for the links but I could not open the pdf a message appeared saying Clymer has removed this due to digital copyright ,can you tell me ,if they are adjustable ,I put the question to another bike forum and they said they are non adjustable ,you set them up then adjust them and that's it ,are they right

  10. thanks for the replies ,I think I guessed the answer before I got it ,ive looked in the oil window ,the inside looks like a star shaped thing their is a line about half way up which I guess is the oil level ,I had to lie on me belly to see it properly ,noe can somebody helpme back up lol

  11. thanks shorty ive been on gaitermans site I tried to contact him but ,when I clicked on the contact us window nothing happened after some attempts I gave up ,will try again

  12. hi again I always put fork gaiters on my bikes ,does anybody know the correct size of gaiters ,that will fit a 1992 xv535 I need the inner tube size and the outer tube size and the length I'm not sure but I have tried to measure them my self the inner fork tube diameter is 34mm the outer tube is diameter is 56mm the length is 203mm would that be correct

  13. thanks eastanglian that's exactly what ive done ,jacked up bike and put it on axle stands much easier now to get to parts .I have another query I am looking at black widow exhausts will I need to rejet if I buy them their advert says no rejetting needing ,only on non uk models is that right

  14. thanks for the info ,can the collector box be separated from the exhaust pipes ,from underneath the bike ,don't know if they are different from a Honda cm I had the downpipes went into one end of the box and the exhaust pipes went into the other end ,which meant I had to take the exhaust pipes of is this the same for the xv535

  15. hi and thanks for the info can anybody tell me if the silencer box on the xv535 can be removed separately on the bike without taking the whole asystem of
