Silvermans on the Mile End Road. Do a fair selection of retro jackets. They have a Schott Perfecto (think this is what Barndo wore in the Wild One) for £900.

They also do their own brand ones for around £100 or so.

I have been using Halfords 10-40 semi syn in my Suzooks for years, never had a problem.

Its not the cheapest but as said, why would you put cheap oil in your bike.

[What do I fancy ? I know exactly what i want . I want a 2004 -2006 XL 1200 R . I've been researching this for some time and I have settled on this model because its got the first rubber mounted engine , everything is powder coated , twin discs, mid controls , race cams , a carburetor, no fuel pump, belt drive and many low mileage examples fall into my price range ( £5000 )

I had the Harley itch last year and after much research settled on exactly the same bike you did.

In the end though I just couldn't do it. £5k was just too much for what would have been a second bike. Bought a bargain basement SV650N instead (well its a V twin).

Not sure if there within 100 miles of Coventry but Maverick Motorcycles in Croydon and Eastern Cruisers in sunny Southend usually have a fair few Sportsters in stock. I also joined the HD forum and one or two did come up for sale there. Also the main HD dealers do occasionally get an older bike in so its worth scouring the net.

One thing I don't understand about the Lycra brigade is their inability to realise they are the most vulnerable road user.

Yes they may even be entitled to ride three abreast down a country lane but they are putting themselves in harms way and will be just as raspberried or deaded, whether in the right or not
