    I've got a Weise 'Westward' jacket (from the distant past) - it's not up to modern standards (but the one you buy will be) and has lasted well (well enough it is now old!), so I'd recommend them. If it's any good (or bad) then post a review...

    I don't know what it is. It could be some kind of air-injection type emissions thing, maybe... However, given the bike works better with it not melted, I'd go for that option It's right above the exhaust which is probably why it melted. If you can find some higher-temperature (silicone rubber?) hose then that will help. You could also stick some exhaust wrap around the top of the exhaust header to try and reduce the temperature of the outside.
