  1. hi all....ive got a bike with straight thru pipes and there way too loud...

the problem i have is there both bent about 3 inch from the end..so ill have problems fitting a baffle in..

so what i was thinking is making baffles with 22mm copper pipe....and bending them to fit around the bend...

that way i might get a baffle 7inch long....

anybody think of a better idea...is copper pipe ok to use...

if i was in america it wouldnt be a problem cos ive seen baffles over there which are flexible made for bent pipes...

ive recently ordered stuff from the usa and with the exchange rate and post it cost me a fortune so want to avoid ordering anything else from there..

    cheers all

  2. hi all...i need to make a wheel spacer for a project im doing....

i was thinking of using aluminium tube and cutting using a mitre block....

looking online at tubing and they all state outside diameter...i want 25mm id so thats confusing me...

if i find a tube with 28mm od and a 3mm wall with that give me the 25mm id i need...

or should i find an engineering shop to make them for me....

    cheers all

  3. i counted them on the bike but now ive counted on the pic and yes 17 it is...

the rear sprocket was custom made to fit a wheel with a drum brake and imo he made it too big...

pulls off better in second.....i know the engine was made to rev high but with my pipes it sounds too high at 50ish mph.

was just trying to reduce the revs a bit at 50....

ill probebly never go much faster as i just use it to potter around the b roads around the north notts area...and theres plenty of them up here.

i do need to sort a speedo out tho.....its drum brake front and back so dont think i could fit an aftermarket digi speedo..

no place to fit the magnets...so might look at a gps speedo

  4. removed and blocked all the tubes....

made new air filter pods using the rubbers from a set of those cheap metal pods...a 2inch plastic pipe then wrapped the foam from the filters that were on the bike when i got it...the air flow that goes into the carb is now clean and the opening is under 2 inch....covered by the foam...

turned out a/f screw 2.5 and run great but popped too much on over run...turned back in half a turn and now runs great...

might get a colourtune kit to see if i can tune to perfection....

ive cut the exhaust pipes so now there shorter with a bend pointing down and slightly out...so i wont burn the shit out of my legs like originally did...

i fitted baffles inside the tubes an that has quitened it sown a bit...was straight thru when i got it...

so far so good...next job on the list is sort the clutch out....drags when putting it into first gear and stalles....but only when i first ride it....goes thru all the gears ok up and down...i park up turn off and 5 mins later drags again....ive had bikes that do that first start up after a few days off but not as often as this one...

cables ok i reckon plates are old and sticking and worn springs...so that my next job...

ill see if i can post a small vid on here later

cheers fastbob for all your help

  5. hi fastbob...think i now know which pipes to bung or remove

it was running very rough...started great at the press of the button but would splutter when revved...and wouldnt stay at constant revs....

ive worked out that the cv carbs needs lets say some resistance at the air intake end so what ive done is fit a sleeve inside the foam pod filters.to restrict the air intake..

started great and revved much cleaner..took it out for a spin and deffo rideable..

bought some nice new cone filter pods but theres not enough space between the carbs and the frame so they dont fit so going to try and improve the foam ones this weekend.

    back the the pipes....

the heater pipe which comes from the rad to the carbs and back to the head....where they connect to the carbs....ive removed those pipes but still left with the metal tubes coming from the carbs...now i could leave them there but they do slightly obstruct the air/fuel mixture screw...

they swivel slightly....is there a way to remove them....looking at a parts diagram they look like there just held in with a spring washer....havnt tried pulling them out.....yet...

im pretty sure they wont need bunging as i reckon no water actually enters anyware...if i cant remove them they will just have to stay there....

im also sure ill need to take the bike to a dyno and work out the best jets to fit as normal with an air filter change and streight thru pipe...it is muffled slightly...

anuwau cheers for your help so far fastbob

  6. hi all.just bought a er500 engined chop and it runs like crap....i know cvcarbs dont like pod air filters and im looking into that.

the first thing i want to know is can i get rid of some pipework.

theres pipes coming from the carbs thru a small filter like tube and up into the head area...theres another pair going nowhere....

theres one going from the rad to the bottom of the carbs via a valve...possibly non return...

can i get rid of any of these....i had a ccm ages ago and we would remove them all and block off the holes...

also the rad is fitted to the frame but no fan is attached....i suspect in this weather it will overheat but might be ok in normal english weather....

    cheers for any advice...

    will post pics soon.
