It's the length of time it takes to investigate. Our office had 4 officers on restricted duties not long ago, due to one or 2 incidents. Over a year they were office bound and the result in the end? Nothing. No learning and no prosecution, they were completely cleared of any wrong doing and allowed to go back to normal duties. The stress it put on them was enormous, as they all faced loosing their jobs and had to have solicitors represent them. It's had a massive effect on most of them and they aren't remotely interested in the job anymore

 

You're only putting forward the fact that the Officers were on restricted duties. Not why, or for what they were being investigated. So it make it difficult to judge whether the investigation was necessary or not.

It's the length of time that's the issue, the investigation was necessary, but should not have taken the time it did. If I'd investigated and assault on a member of the public and took that long, I'd have been sacked. The CCTV was shown in the hearing and both officers from the one case were cleared straight away. It literally took minutes.

See i don't really agree with that. Nobody should be protected from prosecution. You make a mistake at work and somebody dies, 9/10 you're going to court. The Old Bill should not have an exemption from due process.

Also, would be interested to know how many Officers have actually been convicted of wrongful death or unlawful death or even manslaughter in the last 20 years?

That's not to say i don't think they should be knocking these little cockwombles off bikes used for crime.

 

Probably not many charged but how many have had their lives and careers put on hold whilst acustations or accidents (there fault or not) have happened. If you knock enough scrotes of bikes one of them is going to get hurt and as the clips already shows they are not going to say OK fair cop mate. They are going to say what the fook where you doing that for, it was my mates bike, I was stopping, I did not see you, it was not me, you did it because I am poor/ rich black white/ yellow/ green/ rich ginger/ blond, I was not properly dressed you can't knock me off my bike.

Here I am on the dole legal aid or some charity is going to pay my legal costs whilst for the next 2 years your integrity medical and family background and family life is interrogated. YOur career destroyed and no prosecution is actually made cause I drop the charges leaving said officer with career in taters without even a cleared name!

That's why they need some protection IMHO.

Hi all, I really do want to learn how to ride and start commuting by bike but at the same time I am kind of scared/worried about safety. Was anyone else like this when they first began riding? Also any commuters here, how you finding it? Esp winter months. Thanks.

Doing my day job I've dealt with numerous motorcycle accidents and a lot of them have ended very badly, so I was always put off by this. I passed my test in August and I've really enjoyed it. You have to learn to ride as if no one can see you. My day job has also helped me with my road position and hazard awareness.

I commute most days and love it (not as much at 5am when it's freezing cold)

Thanks for the replies so far, not having much luck at the moment!

Both cars are having issues and as I got kitted up for work tonight, the bike failed to start.

It cranks over, but not very well and not enough to start, then there's a lot of clicking and all the lights go out (dash and headlight)

The clock and trip reset themselves.

Going to get a new battery tomorrow and see how I get on, need it ready for a long week at work. At least I don't have to ride back from work at 3am now, as the weather is due to get really bad

My 2008 Kawasaki Er6n has developed a little issue. The dash lights and the headlight on high beam flicker during normal running. If I use the throttle, the dash lights go back to normal. The headlight will get brighter, if I slightly pull the front brake.

The only thing I've done as a modification, is to fit heated grips and these have been on for over a month and function normally.

The other issue I have for the last 2 days, is the ABS light flashes and will then eventually stay on, the ABS doesn't work then, but once the engine is switched off and then on, it's fine for a while.

I did drop the bike and bend the rear brake lever the other week, a new one is on the way.

My mate has used a meter to check the battery when the bike was idle and whilst the heated grips were in use and it's fine, the reading doesn't change.

Any suggestions? The bike has covered around 35k and I've owned it since Sept

I've had a mobius action camera in the car for a few years, never actually needed it.

If I was to buy another camera, this is the one I'd get.

My sister had a bump the other day, driver pulled out on her, admitted liability at the scene and then changed their mind later on. A dashcam would have solved it.

Made it in to work in the pouring rain. Everything was soaked

How much is Audi ?

It'll be up for around 13k and then open to offers, haven't got round to finalizing the advert. It'll be replaced with a smaller car now I have the bike.

It's chucking it down outside, so I'll get my wet weather practice in on the way to work, luckily there's a drying room, so everything will be nice and dry for the return journey around 11pm

I think the biggest issue when riding in the wet is the visor fogging up. I have tried pretty much everything and my top solutions are -

1 - Pinlock https://www.pinlock.com/

2 - a well ventilated helmet that has a visor which can be opened ever so slightly to leave a small air gap

My helmet came with pinlock, it's been brilliant, no fogging up since it was fitted

I'm new to all this bike riding and so far, the weather has been good, but it's all going to change soon!

I'm not looking forward to my first commute in the rain, or even just on wet roads. I have this vision in my head, that the slightest damp patch in a corner, or slight kink and the bike will slide from underneath me.

Other than being smooth and riding to the conditions, is there anything that will get this feeling of nerves out of my system before the weather turns?

Bought mine online, I did a lot of research and watched a lot of videos before.

I made sure they did free returns and then ordered. I had to send the first one back, as even though I went with the size guide, it was just too big (I'm on the border of a small and medium)

Received a reply from the seller about the bolts

The bolt through the middle of the bung is 10mm. The others are 8mm. Hope this helps

They are genuine Kawasaki bungs and £25 plus postage, so could be worth a go

I've seen some crash bungs on eBay, they are listed for a Kawasaki Er6F, it's the same year bike as mine, but mine is a Er6n (naked version). I've tried Google but can't see if they would fit and the seller is not sure, but thinks the frame is the same once the faring is off the bike.

Any ideas?
