you say you have a spark and fuel but it wont turn over how did you make it spark if it wont turn over. is there an alarm fitted if there is this is most likely the cause. check wiring at all the earth's and the regulator connector and make sure the battery connections are tight and clean. stand switch etc as its almost certainly an electric fault its a case of breaking it down. faults like these are a pain but usually a simple thing and its an old bike so im sure you are used to the fun and games

sounds like that could be a challenge your oil level was low and you knew the engine was running hot (in the red) and you took it for a 40 mile run..... what did you expect the sight glass and temperature gauge have a purpose as you have now found out to your cost... as above

Advice on a pair of paddock stands
zzr lon replied to pumilio's topic in Clothing, Luggage, Accessories and Security
get an ABBA STAND as you will be able to do the front forks. there around £80-£100 with the fitting kit. i have the standard front and rear stands and your a bit limited service wise -
under clothing to stay cool.

i think they keep you cooler when stationary as the moisture in them keeps you cool but as said on a hot day bugger all keeps you really cool. -

i wear a all in one suit under my leathers summer one. less chance of it riding up with one piece. got it of ebay for £30 ish and its great (EXTREEM RACING). they wick away sweat and it makes getting the suit of a cinch as its not all sweaty. keeps your suit clean to as you can wash and dry the inner suit in no time. get one you wont regret it -
think youll find oil additives are a bad thing especially the ones that claim to fix leaks. Redex is fantastic stuff and thoroughly recommend it

sounds like the bike needs a thoroughly good service . the mayo is from lots of short journeys etc or 5min start ups. oil and filter change will sort that. have you looked at the air filter. personally full service plugs filters oil valves and a carb balance etc and you will have eliminated most things. you may have a carb prob but you need to do the other things first. plus a check of all related wires earth's etc battery good igniter box plug caps coils hth

All you need now is for it to operate the choke for those cold mornings.. Yeah, or I could leave the choke on when I park it up last thing at night. yes and when someone rides off on it you will be fooked good a propper by the ins comp why the hell does any one wont remote start these days

dont worry to much about a bit of rust as it will come straight back until you get the shoes in. just give em a wipe out with a clean cloth. the drum will wear eventually but i think you will be really old by then try david silver spares for brakes but they will be cheap anyway.
-
shagging dont usually mess up drum brakes think you have fitted the brake arm wrong. when the arm is applying the brake it should be at 90deg in relation to the adjuster so get that right and then adjust the adjuster till you get some freeplay at the peddle say 15-20mm and see how you get on

had a sprint st and prefer it to the vfr800 as a lot more soul better brakes and very good build too blackbird is great if your 5-10 or more as its a reach for the bars and at 5-8 i found it a bit uncomfortable on long rides. i have a zzr11 atm which is superb but old now but if you can afford the new zzr14 that's fabulous. trick is too have a good test ride and then you will know. think the fz1 needs a power commander to sort glitchy fueling which will piss you of when touring. bandits are a good old bike but again they are a very old design and built down to a price so you don't get a quality finish and you have to clean it meticulously if you want it to sty nice.

hi average brake pad thickness is around 6mm so when its down to 1.5mm your nearly there.hth if you are going to fit new ones don't forget to clean the pistons before you push them back in as all the crap on them will give you hassle later. also check your fluid level afterwards as it may be over-filled with new pads and again this can cause fluid lock if its to full

shame you don't live near me as its an hours work to fit a set of rings and 2 hrs if the valve seals are shot and £15-£30 worth of bits so have you got a handy mate local who will do the job for a few tinnies as that is the student way. and if you can get it to run half decent then you will get another year out of it. never been a student but ive been down to my last penny so worth the gamble as having some transport is better than none good luck bill

having read your symptoms id say the water is just getting past the h-t cap seal and then earthing so only a prob when pissing down and fine when sunny so check it has a good seal at the cap (this is a common prob with the front cyl on the sv650) -
check air filter and plug first. then it may be a case of fine tuning the mixture screw as it may be the reason its bogging down. if the filter and plug are ok all you need to do is hold the throttle at say 2000 rpm and then turn the mixture screw anti clock wise till you get the smoothest running and then turn the screw clockwise a small amount say quarter turn to rich-en the mixture slightly and it should improve the running hth

a quality c&s should see 20k easily if maintained propperly on a st bike. but 10-15k on a sports bike is about it. c&s kits these days are far better than they used to be

Which is the best jacket for hot weather?
zzr lon replied to a topic in Clothing, Luggage, Accessories and Security
i have a Heine gericke Air Jacket for the hottest days its armoured and is as cool as a jacket can be. there's a back protector arm & shoulder padding too plus all the pockets and air zips so you can open or close airflow. its a good jacket and well worth the £79 i paid -
i use a 2 piece zipped togeather when im going for a proper blast and a jacket and either Kevlar jean or leather jeans when doing local stuff. i always wear boots as ankles get knackered easily i have a summer jacket too which offers some protection but some is better than the t shirt and know gloves brigade. ps i hit a car at 15mph ish in 89 and was wearing the full kit and apart from a elbow that would look right on someone who weighs 40stone i had know road rash which was a surprise as the leathers were shredded after a slide of maybe 8-10 yds
