  1. X-Rays show nothing other than a black mass and blob. I do a lot of work with the Arai/AGV importer as a consultant and they admit that it was a bit of a gimmick a few years back, but the reality is that the ompy way it can be determined whether the liner is OK is to stip it down examine it and then re-assemble. The downside is that it has to be done by the factory bacaue once stripped back and re-assembled is ceases to comply with EC22/05 It does not take a massive impact to compress the liner and because there is no visible damage to the shell does not mean that no damage has been caused to the liner. The reality is though that unless you feel that the protective qualities of your hat have been compromised then as mentioned, don't lose any sleep over it.
  2. Well I only ride faired bikes and that certainly helps. I have never ridden with guards and grips but the theory is sound
  3. How else are the dealers and retailers going to make their extra money if they ae fitted at the factory?
  4. Heated grips for me every time. First accessory I fit to any new bike. Allows me to continue to wear light gloves, and I have seen a lot of nasty burns caused by the wiring of the heated gloves burning the skin, and in the event that the connector is plugged to the bike (as opposed to a seperate battery) I have seen a few riders dragged down the road when they have come off and the connector has failed to seperate. And if hands get wet, warm damp hands are better than cold wet hands. Personal opnion, but 30+ years I have used them without any complaints or issues.
  5. You say he has no licence, but then you say he only has a provisional, so if he holds a provisional I assume he does hold a licence then? If he holds a provisional, what bike as he riding? That has a bearing on any potential other offences. Penalty in terms of the speed offence of dependant on many factors. How far over the speed limit was he, was it in a 30, 40 speed limit or a higher limit? Was he caught by a camera, following check, speed gun? Was he stopped at the time of the alleged offence or did he receive an NIP through the post at a later date? What area was he caught in? Different Police forces and different courts have different policies around the country To be able to provide a definitive answer (even for the likes of Pepiplop) more information is needed. I can give you an overview, but it would not be appropriate without knowing more detail as there are so many variables.
  6. It has been suggested that we should set up a UK road crash investigation branch operated along similar lines to the Air Accident Investigation branch, Maritime and Rail Crash Investigation units as well. I can see some merit in the idea, but I need to be convinced http://www.roadsafe.com/callforaukaccidentinvestigationbranch
  7. Markers on the Motorway are not in yards. Only signs that are not in yards. White on green could be on a dual carriageway, but it is not the correct answer. And there is an add on for the concealed level crossing. It is not just a level crossing. Still not a full answer though.
  8. Here you go, lets see if you can answer this one without cheating We all know the countdown markers on a Motorway as shown below. But...... What other colour countdown markers do we get and where will you find them, and I do not include countdown on the approach to some speed limits as they are not official
  9. The Northern Ireland DL196 (CBT certificate) is valid throughout the UK including the Republic of Ireland. However.....(There is always a kicker isn't there? ) if you want to take your full motorcycle test in England, then the Northern Ireland CBT is not recognised, you would have to obtain an English issued CBT certificate and unfortantely there is no reciprocal agreement for certs like there is with many countries for licences. So in short, you can ride as a learner, but if you are resident and want to get your full licence, you would have to do an English CBT even though the CBT courses in both countries are identical. If you want clarification, you can always contact the DVLA of Northern Ireland at https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/contacts/contacts-az/driver-vehicle-agency-driver-licensing
  10. How much do you know? 10 road signs I will confess to being a smart arse and as I got 10/10 without cheating I did find it easy..... https://www.regit.cars/car-quiz/road-sign-quiz_447
  11. I am delighted to now be able to announce that my firm are going to be sponsors of the Ace Cafe in London for 2018. All of us at Hudgell's are excited and looking forward to working with Mark, Vasilis and the rest of the team in the coming year. Watch this space for further updates
  12. The complaint has been made and the carer and the family has already been notified that an investigation will be conducted. The police who attended have already corroborated the account. Just as you get unprofessional Police Officers, you will get unprofessional Ambulance crews, Firemen and women, Nurses, even inthe Military you get bad apples, so it in my opinion comes as no surprise at all that once in a while a baddun slip through the net. When my Mother died, a couple of weeks after her funeral, my father got a letter from the local council addressed to my mother, and I promise this is true. We have kept the letter to this day It read "Dear Mrs Deceased. We were sorry to hear of your recent death" It then went on about the council tax reduction or whatever, but at the end of the letter it finishes off by saying "Please ensure that this matter is passed onto your next of kin for their immediate attention" I phones said council and asked then what the hell they were up to? Apparently they used a standard proforma letter and then filled in the specific sections, but whoever had done this letter had screwed up big time. They were very embarrased and very apologetic I laught about it now, but at the time
  13. I use and have used a wax based shoe polish on leathers that needs a bit of colour restoration all the time and have done so for over 30 years. I have red shoe polish, black, white as well as a neutral. Never caused an issue to my leathers.
  14. I agree with you. I am one of those and I go in on Saturday to get jabbed. Where I am have a walk in clinic, and providing you are on the list, Saturday morning just join the queue, although why it could not have been done when I was having my appointment last week I don't know, but I digress.... I have come to the conclusion that much of the problem lies not with the medical staff, but with the administrators and receptionists, which is an interesting follow on to my other post about the Paramedic and undertakers. On Saturday we get a phone call from Mother in Law who is 80 and lives in sheltered accomodation. She had an accident, which the circumstances to the cause are actually quite funny. She had been reading a book with her legs crossed. I don't know how long she had been reading for, but she went to stand up put her leg to the floor which had gone to sleep, fell over and banged her head and her ankle was hurting to the point where she could not weight bear. So wife dresses and shoots round by wich time MiL had recovered her senses (or the senses she retains ) and after speaking to MiL phones 111 who advise her to take her to A & E just to be on the safe side. So, I get hauled out to drive both down to A & E. We arrive at 10.10 in the morning. I managed to park for a short while on the drop off point but MiL had difficulty in walking and there were no wheelschairs, so wife had to support her mother as best she could to get her to the new reception just inside the door where they do a quick assesment to determine whether A & E is the right place to be, and then issue a yellow or red card according to the severity of the perceived injury. Red card means you get seen sooner or soonest. MiL is given a red card which is then handed to the main reception as you are booked in who then arranges a proper assesment before seeing the Doctor. I went and parked the car which took about 20 minutes. When I got back they were still queuing with about 6 others stood behind them with just a few people sat down in the waiting room. Wife tell me that the receptionists had been having a social yack since they arrived and when Wife asked if they could sort something out as her mother was in pain and getting heavy (and there was still no wheel chair available) she was bluntly told that they were busy as they carried on their social conversation. Other patients behind were equally agitated and with the threat of a major disturbance, receptionists returned back to booking people in. During the course of the morning the queue just got bigger and bigger, and some people who looked very poorly were made to wait. One chap was there with his wife who I thought was going to pass out was kept waiting for 40 minutes before he was able to check his wife in and this is despite asking several times if she could be seen to as she was poorly and his comments just got brushed aside as being trivial. 5 hours later, we left the Hospital. Mother in Law was disgnosed with a broken ankle, and once disgnosed she was put into a wheelchair. Today she has to return to the fracture clinic to have the break assessed and a decision made as to whether she needs a pot putting on, so the process starts all over again. The point is that I think that by and large the medical treatment we get in thos country is second to none. I will testify to that based on my own recent experiences, but it is the none medical staff that cause many of the problems we hear off. Had the receptionists been more helpfull and professional, I am sure that MiL could have been seen and dealt with in 2 - 3 hours rather than the 5 it took as I appreciate that they (The Hospital) have Ambulance emergency admissions coming in as well which take priority, but they don't do themselves any favours sometimes. But then being the cynic, I reckon it all linked into the car park fees. £14 for 5 hours. And the car park was full The longer you are kept waiting the more they make n parking fees....
  15. I agree with you. It is the first time in over 40 years of dealing with bereavement that I have ever come across such (shall we say) surprising behaviour, and because it has been corroborated nobody can make an accusation of exageration or blowing it out of proprtion.
  16. Following on from my thread about the NHS, this little episode took it to another level at the weekend. My Mother in Law lives in independent living accomodation. For those of you who are unaware, these are privately owned (very comfortable) flats where you have to be aged 55 or above to be abe to live there, and whilst you are totally independent, there are facilities in built to make life easier for example if someone collapses the intercom can be activated remotely and access obtained without the need for a key (still very secure) as an example. Anyway, on Friday one of the residents passed away. He was well into his 80's, quite frail and had been suffering from some illness over the past few weeks. The resident was last seen at around 11pm the previous evening heading for his flat from the community area. He had a carer who arrived to see him at around 9am Friday morning only to find him sat at his dining room table dead. He had obviously been dead for a while as Rigor Mortis had set in and he still had the waxy type of complexion that is unique to a dead body, so being a nurse of about 20+ years standing, the carer just to make sure checked for a pulse and breathing and then dialed 101 to notify the Police of a sudden death. This is not a 999 call requirement. Police said they would get someone out as they are required to do, but in the meantime, Ambulance service called (having been passed the details by the Police). Ambulance control operator asked what had happened and the carer explained that the resident had passed away. She was asked how she knew so she explained about hernursing background yardy yardy ya. In other words she was suitably qualified to know if someone had died or not. Ambulance operator then told the carer to commence CPR..... So she explained that the deceased was in Rigor, he had been dead for some time but the operator insisted (seems like they were reading from a script) and told the carer that she was not qualified to determine if someone was dead or not and that she was legaly obliged to perform CPR until such time as her Paramedic colleagues arrived. By this time carer was fuming and after a few more minutes of trying to explain she ended up putting the phone down. 10 minutes later, Ambulance arrived on lights and sirens bowled into the flat and said words along the lines of "where the stiff then" without checking to ask who was present or showing any courtesy to those present. They lifted the deceased onto the floor and lifted his shirt to confirm that life was extinct and then left him on the floow with his legs raised shirt raised and afforded him (albeit he was dead and probably would not have cared) a complete lack of dignity. Police arrived a short while later who apparently were brilliant. Then the Paramedics left without so much as a by your leave (which is no big deal) but then the undertakers arrived and again also walked in without so much as a the courtesy of a "Hello", or a "Sorry for your loss", they just ignored everyone, went straight to the body, broke or cracked his legs in order to get him into the body bag. Now bearing in mind that this took place in a first floor flat, the undertakers were asked if they could take the body down the back lift as there were quite a few old people who...If they saw a body being removed might themselves have an early coronary. "No" says the undertakers, we go out the way we came in, using the main lift. The main lift fits 3 people maximum. The body in the body bag was stood up as they went down in the lift and then had to manhandle the body out to their van. As the lift doors opened, there were a couple of people awaiting for the lift who had the shock of their lives. I have no reason to doubt the accuracy of the account I was given as there was nothing to be gained, but I was surprised because usually Ambulance service and undertakers are amongst the most professional body of people I have ever encountered in my professional career. A complaint is being made to both the Ambulance service and the Undertakers (supported by the Police in attendance who were also disgusted by their behaviour of both). It will be interesting to see what they have to say.
  17. I had forgotten how good this was. A seriously good watch and truly inspiring
  18. My copy of Dream the Impossible has just arrived. Guess what I am going to be watching this weekend? I am looking forward to it
  19. How many of you are aware that from October 2018 significant changes are being made to the injury claims process? It is going to affect many people, and in a lot of cases you will either have to do it yourself, or pay your own legal representation which means that many genuinely injured people will not be able sue a person or company responsible for causing injury through negligence. This article explains in more detail https://www.hudgellsolicitors.co.uk/news/road-traffic-accidents/do-not-run-out-of-time-to-make-your-claim-sweeping-changes-due-in-less-than-12-months-from-now/?utm_content=buffer9877c&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook.com&utm_campaign=buffer
  20. I got a letter the other day asking me to make a routine appointment with my Doctor to discuss my recent blood tests. So, phoned up surgery and the first available appointment was a month away, so I took it and put it in my diary. I went away on holiday 2 weeks later, came back to find another letter asking me to make a routine appointment with my GP to discuss my recent blood tests. So I phoned up again, explained that I already had an appointment booked, so given the 2nd letter did I need to make a second appointment as surely I could discuss whatever it was about when I saw my Dr at the confirmed appointment I already had. So, a second appointment booked for beginning of next month. Yesterday went to the surgery to keep my first appointment. I was kept waiting for over an hour before I was called in. Went into Dr's room and the first question I got asked was "What can I do for you?" So I replied "I don't know, it was you that asked me to make an appointment!" "Oh right" she said looking somewhat surprised, and then asked if I was on Statins. "No" says I, "I just take the pills that are prescribed to me" So she told me that my cholestrol was a bit high and she was surprised that I had not been prescribed statins to help bring it down. "How do you feel otherwise?" she asked. "Fine" says I. She then told me that she would write to the cardiac unit to ask why I was not on statins and then get back to me within the next month. That took less than 2 minutes. So I then asked why I had been asked to make another appointment which was booked in for early November? "Have you?" she said. "I have no idea why. I don't need to see you regarding anything unless you are feeling unwell" she replied. So on the way out I told reception that I would be cancelling the 2nd appointment as this requirement had not been required in the first place, and you would have thought I was demanding a £1million ransom. What a palava........ So, not ony did I make a wasted journey and spend 2 hours driving and sitting around for just 2 minutes of Q & A, someone else more deserving could have had my appointment and the November appointment could have been given to someone else from the off. The whole thing could have been done on the phone (which has been the case before) and saved everyone time money and inconvenience. Left had clearly does not talk to the right hand but they keep talking about being overworked and under financed..... Some of it in my opinion is self inflicted.
  21. Thought you might be interested in this. How to make progress when starting from the back of the grid. ">
  22. On of the noisiest I have ever worn and not overly impressed with build quality. So again, it os subjective and down to personal opinion which is why you can ask 10 riders for their opinions and get 10 different opinions.
