I am in a bit of a quandary and I have concluded that it is something that I may be better off getting a different opinon/view on the matter from a different perspective. I am a founder member from 30+ years ago of an advanced driving and riding group. It is quite a large group. For many years I did all the lecture sessions on Roadcraft, I advised tutors (both car and bike) sat on the committee, but time contraints meant that I could not give it the attention it required or deserved and so after about 10 years or so, I stood down but I was always on hand to offer advice if and when required, and I was given honourary life membership of the group. Subsequently, over the years I have gone back as guest speaker, but this weekend I received an email from the president of the group saying that the current chairperson was stepping down in September, would I be prepared to consider being put forward or considered as the new chairman of the group. I am very flattered obviously, but the more I think about it, the more I think that to accept the offer to even be put forward would be wrong even though I do now have more time on my hands. I have not been active in the group for a long time. There are members and committee members who have been not only active but given up a lot of time to promote the group who are probably more deserving. My appointment could cause a lot of animosity amongst members who may not be aware of my history or background with the group even though from what I am aware I would be the first chairman qualified on both cars as well as bikes.. There are other potential issues that might arise if I were to accept the nomination. So what would be your views? Say to hell with it and just accept the nomination and see what happens? Just say thank you for being considered but gracefully decline the offer? Anything that I may have overlooked or not considered given my very brief explanation above. Views and comments appreciated

I promise you it is not an issue. You were not to know. It just happens to be a day that does not hold any joy for me these days. So no need to apologise I assure you, and the sentiment is appreciated

Thanks for the good wishes guys, I appreciate it. However for me it is not a day I relish or celebrate anymore as it was my birthday 19 years ago that my mother died at the age of 61.

I don't know. I cannot recall if it was members only or guests were allowed last time I was there. Some groups do welcome guests. But I know last time I was there, a couple of people did say that they had read some posts on here (maybe non posting members) which is why I flagged up my attendance again. They are having a stand at a few of the shows in yur area, Hornsea, one at the KCOM et, if you get to any of them, may be worth asking the question.

Just been asked to return and give a second talk to the Hull and East Riding Advanced Motorcycle Group (HERAM) on the 18th of September This time it will be on the investigation process and how what I do differs to the investigation carried out by the Police and Insurance companies. Also get to show a few gory pictures Looking forward to it

There are several sources used for valuations, including what is called the blue book and is a list of every injury and precise valuations. These figures also cover for medical negligence cases as well. But it is not so much the valuing of the injuries (general damages) that is the issue, because once it has been determined whether it is minor, moderate or serious/catastrophic, that element is fairly straight forward. It is the special damages that causes the biggest issue because no two individual circumstances are the same.

I get asked all the time how much someone is likely to get paid out after being injured in a crash. I don't do stress Work is great, and I have not drunk alcohol since I was about 25. My medication is not the cause, and yes I am not posting as much at the moment and those that have really wound me up I have simply blocked so I don't give a stuff what they say or think. And you are right, I have been getting snappy at times, and my lip is quite sore from biting it so hard, but it is not just about forum chatter, it goes further than that. I was even swearing out loud at drivers today. Something I have very rarely done although that is not to say that I have not cursed them under my breath, but out loud is unusual for me.

This is probably a question that can only be answered by someone in their 60's, or older than me (late 50's), I don't know, hence I thought I would ask the question. I have always by and large been quite mild mannered and it usually takes a lot to wind me up before I let fly, but once the blue touch paper has been lit it is usually a case of stand back as I blow my top, (which very few people have ever seen) after which it is forgotten, no grudges and I carry on. I have always (and still do) try to and have been prepared to help out wherever I can, and I have always tried to look at the funny side of things or find humour in 99% of situations. This is different to having a difference of opinion, or an argument or debate as we all have different views, I am on about really being wound up. But over the past 12 - 18 months, I have noticed that I really am becoming less tolerant of people, things or circumstances. I have lost count of the number of times I have been seething and really had to bite my lip or I have had a pop at someone because they have come out with total garbage. A few people have commented that my reaction has sometimes surprised them, It is only when I think back I realise that maybe I was a bit off... I used to think said someone who spouted garbage was just a tosspot and then move on. Now I think what a total w@nker and it festers with me and simmers below the waterline. Is that just me or is it an age thing? And don't mention the male menopause. Not interested....

My Mrs has my old company 2.0 Ghia TDi C-Max on an 04 plate. I have had it from new and when I left the job, the car was just 3 years old and I was allowed to buy it for a snip. It had just under 60,000 miles at that time. The wife has now owned it for 10 years, It is now showing 110,000 on the clock and still drives well. I cannot speak for the 1.6, but the 2.0 has a good engine, a very slick 6 speed gearbox, and she likes the elevated driving position. I don't know what spec level you are considering, but the Ghia is well appointed. The elecronic hand brake takes a bit of getting used to and it does cause the rear pads to wear more quickly. Check that the recall was carried out for the heatshield at the back of the bulkhead. The recall is recent and we got one despite the car being nearly 13 years old. EGR valve can be an issue and causes a loss of power as it gets blocked, but is about £200 to fix. It needs a proper heavy duty battery. Fit a ow output unit and it can really screw things up with the systems. Build quality and comfort though is pretty good as is reliability, As I say, we have an older 2.0 and I am told that whilst the power of the 1.6 is not quite as good as the 2 litre for obvious reasons. it is still a good engine. I keep suggesting to the wife that we should consider changing it, but she won't hear of it. Hope that helps? Feel free to ask any questions

Who told you that? The examiners I deal with are quite adamant that they want to pass people simply to avoid the paperwork that goes with faling someone. But similar to when I am examining someone, it can be very subjective as to whether someone has attained the required standards, the difference is I have t do the paperworj regardless of whether the rider passes or fails. In this case if the test was observed by the instructor, then the instructor should take it up and make an assist the OP make an official complaint. The procedure is quite straightforward.

Why boots are important!

I was wearing a £200 pair of boots when I had my big crash. Said boots are now why I am registered disabled. I have some fantastic pictures of leg and foot injuries which were/are part of my case studies into kit and its failings, it would cause a few people to throw up if they saw them. -
Spend 35+ years working with bikes professionally and whilst once a petrol head, always a petrol head, you will lose the desire to talk about bikes 24/7. It took me about 10 years to stop talking bikes at every opportunity and switch off. I am now entering my 36th year as a professional motorcyclist and I still love bikes and always will, but I also love turning off and thinking about other things

Back in the 70's I did an outward bound course at Applecross at the West Highland School of Adventure. Brilliant 4 weeks of sailing, rock climbing, canoeing and, and,and....... I can't find it listed on tinternet, is it still there or even running do you know? Agree with you though. Even back 40 years ago the roads and the scenery were stunning..... I must get back there before I get too much older.... -

Bottoms over a jacket would have been a better idea. More injury are caused to legs in a crash than any other part of the boy except for the head. -

As I said, that is all filtering is, it is just another word for overtaking but slower moving or stationary traffic and had you asked I would have given you the link to the case law.
