  1. 2 minutes ago, Pie man said:

The red master key is used for programming new keys, the ECU will then identify two different keys for the bike, however if you don't have a red key, dependant on which transponder chip is used, you should be able to clone a new key however, using this process to obtain a new key, the ECU would think there is only one key due to it being cloned. (lost myself there for a minute 🤣)

its a gsr 750 so nothing fancy, where the heck would I get it cloned?

  2. I'm only 28 but 2 of my closest friends both want bikes but the test is expensive and hella expensive if you fail more than once, add in a girlfriend and probably owning a car too, going out to places then add on trying to save a massive deposit if you want a decent place too live in a semi decent area and that's it all your money gone, motorbike doesn't even appear as a blip on the radar and don't think you can blame the younger generation, only reason I have a bike is because my parents are well off and gave me a house, yay me but for most young people a bike is just an expensive toy that just isn't feasible when your trying too set your self up for the future,

tldr life too expensive cant afford bike

  3. Getting a second v5c is fine and the bike only has 6000 miles so its missing the service history for first two of the bike but the rest I can reprint from my mechanic, second key is doomed unless I replace the barrel I guess? For future selling how impactful is only have a v5c and some scrappy service history paper lol, I lost the service book too -_- turned the house upside all last week and must have gotten thrown or left behind when I moved house about 4 months ago, frickin annoying

  4. I know this is in really poor taste, but what the hell... :P

Many years ago a friend of mine witnessed a horrific bike crash when a speeding biker overtook him and a few more cars in front on a right-hand bend and was still so far over the centre line on the exit that he head-butted an oncoming vehicle. My mate dialled 999, asked for the police and an ambulance, but said the latter wasn't urgent because it was a fatality. A pissy operator said "The paramedic will make that decision sir, not you" to which my friend said "Well, I'm not medically trained of course, but his helmet has come off and his head is still in it."

Passed 2 as a kid, both with the same decapitation effect, both due to cars pulling out of junctions and likely the bikes going too fast, one poor guy ended up through the post office window, well his lid and his head, post mistress if that's what they are called never made it back to work after that.

Christ sounds haunting, prob not best to read that before I commute home, speeding on a bike just inst worth it, there are very few roads where ill give it the beans

  5. Glad you are ok, but as @TimR mentioned, I'd be wary of what "unseen" damage might have been done.

What sort of speed was she doing when she hit you?

Also, why was she so keen to not go through insurance? Has she got insurance? Has she bumped people before and can no longer get insurance?

I can understand not doing through insurance for very slow bumps which are clearly just cosmetic, but those scuffs looks like the bike went down hard.

Maybe 5mph absolutely tops, and I was stationary, well she said she's never had a crash in 40 years of driving and didn't really know what to do next, I told her we could go through the insurance ( didn't really go into detail, since I'd rather the money and get it fixed asap ) or told her the cost and she just said she would pay, to be honest I don't think she had any clue as to how insurance companies work, she was probably at least 70, kinda hard to feel how bad it went down since it happened so fast, really the only cosmetic damage was a snapped brake lever, scratched up bar end, scuffs to mirror, bent exhaust and destroyed crash protector and slight bend in the cheap ass plastic hugger, her car was alright just one massive tyre mark on the bumper lol

  6. Glad your ok and the bike is sorted. Your so lucky it want ok ..

As for not going thro the insurance it worries me when ppl say that (now After I got screwed by not going thro the insurance)

As been said about unseen damage who checked the bike over hope there is other damaged..

Even if the insurance did crop after should be ok since I had 3 witnesses come to me and grabbed all there details and took photos of everything and the scene where it happened, also fact that the money has gone in and cleared makes it seem unlikely that it will go anyfurther 🤞 and father in law checked it over, very clued up on bike mechanics, he said I got lucky as hell lol

  7. without being doom and gloom i hope you have not underestimated damage ..

rear shunts can present more non visible damage ..

i look at your rear axle nut and think why is there evidence of movenent by the scoring of paintwork of swingarm ..

and if you have declared the mods they will replace them like for like ..

I did get my GFS dad to look over it since his a bike nut and ex mechanic and he said everything was fine, he acutally asked to come over and check since he was worried there was unseen damage, it wasn't particularly fast, maybe 5mph if that? I did tell the insurers all the mods but going through the quote on the phone they told me that any after market parts would be replaced by standard, mce told me this and even though I didn't go with them the company I did go with also said exact same

  8. Oh and I snapped the rear passenger peg by pushing the bike out next to my and my GFS car, got stuck but didn't think anything of it and just pushed as hard as I could then ping r.i.p footpeg, the peg was loose and it fell down and caught on her tyre lol and instead of checking why I couldn't push it, I just said full steam ahead 🤣 that was 4 years ago? And gsr600 to replace the rear peg you have to replace the whole bracket which is 330 so yup it stayed like that lol, prob should just angle grind each side off 🤣

  9. Laughed at some of the comments 🤣 had this bike since I was 21 and was fat lazy, useless, and unwilling to learn, it's battered to hell ( first big bike, rs125 2 stroke and ybr125 before ) been dropped more times than I remember, some of them being insanely dumb, it's pretty rusty lol but too stop it getting it even worse I caked it in acf50 (not gungey parts) to try keep the old gal alive, as bruised and battered as she is, she still rides well, had the forks uprated, luckily had friend who did it for free so was really cheap to do, and brakes are decent, only thing really that might need changing soon is muffler since it's corroded to hell where it joins with the mid pipe, but you can pick one up on eBay for 40 so w/e, also somehow passed mot with no advisories lol anyway here are some more pics after I did a lil clean

  10. Judging how well paraffin cleans greasy chains, I would set up a tray/bowl under the area to be cleaned and start spraying paraffin onto it, agitating with a stiff type of brush. Paraffin's cheap so it's worth a try I reckon.

Ohh I've acutally got 5 liters coming this Wednesday so hopefully perfect, can you recommend any decent brush? Toothbrushes are w**k for this they clog up way to fast, feels like your brushing gunk to gunk lol, also parrafin pretty safe around all parts except paintwork correct?

  11. This acutally happened a week ago but I've been so pissed I didn't want to talk about it, so bought a gsr 750, 5k miles absolutely immaculate and only 4.5k! Way under sold it as it has a ton of extras too, clearly needed cash but w/e so next day I ride it home, so happy, absolutely in love with the bike, commute the next day to work then on the way home I was stopped on a roundabout for a good 4-5 seconds then bump, old granny goes into the back of me, 21 hours after owning bike, went absolutely spastic at the old girl ( which I apologized for when I called her later that night ) she didn't want to go through the insurance which made me so happy since insurance companies replace after market parts with standard and suzuki exhaust are absolutely disgusting, so priced everything up and told her the parts were going to be 1k and she agreeded to pay me a little more because she felt to bad being a brand new bike (1100) 5 days later, money cleared and all parts ordered, spoke to the women a few more times since then, and bless her she's been brilliant, sucks that it happened but crash bungs completely saved all of the paintwork ( worth their weight in gold ) and most other damage is tiny although exhaust got totally trashed and brake lever snapped off which is a annoying job to replace, overall it sucks it happened but the aftermath couldn't have gone smoother and just happy it got sorted so fast and so easily anyway here are some pics, also 5 years on my old bike not one crash, 21 hours on new one and get hit lol, wouldn't even be so bad if it was my own fault but I wasn't even moving!!

  12. Cleaning my bike for the first time in 5 years, put 35k miles on her and done 5 winters 5 days a week, of course now I've got some pretty epic gunge built up, overall the bike looks good but I've got 3 or 4 areas which are so tough I'm having a hard time clearing, so far I've tried muc off degreaser while dry then wait 5 then scrub with a toothbrush, did nothing, tried a bit of white spirit and that got a little bit off but they are in such tight spaces it's hard to scrub, also toothbrush clogs up after 5 seconds and I spend another 10 mins trying too clean the brush lol, are there any mega powerful degreasers out there that could help?

    Thx!

  13. The price you pay for your circumstances unforrunatly.

When I was young and stupid, I bought a 4.2Ltr jag, I could only insure it for 3 months at a time and that was probably down to how long they thought I would live, the premiums would make yours look like a bargain, it sucks but these are the choices we make.

Yea just got too deal with it I guess :( could be worse, spoke with a friend and his paying 720 for a gixxer 600 and his 29 lol

  14. So full license holder for 4 years with 4 years no claims, park on drive with abus disc lock and oxford chain lock, 7k miles a year, social and commuting and for a gsr 750 the cheapest I could get was 580.... and thats with an excess of 1k in the event of a crash, I only put the bike worth 3.7k, the current insurance for my old banger 600 is 190 a year and I done a quote with them and they wouldn't even give me a quote unless it was parked in a shed or garage, I asked him why and he said the value of the bike and because of the type of bike it is they couldn't give me a quote lol, I live in hertfordshire so about 40 mins outside london, however its a low crime rate area but risk of theft is the only thing I can think of that's putting it so high, do I risk saying its worth 1k and hope I don't crash or just suck up and drop 600 on insurance :crybaby: :crybaby: :crybaby: Oh im 27 if that matters too.

  15. Nice one Steve. Well done.

I have mine in cambridge on Tuesday. I am a little worried as they are booking up fast so if I fail I may have a long wait.

I only had one lesson in cambridge and no prior experience in the area, I think it's a great area to do the test, everything is sign posted really well and roundabout signs are nice and clear, the worst thing about failing is the wait for the next test, the two weeks up to this week seemed like they took forever lol, anyway best of luck to your test, the feeling of passing is absolutely amazing :D

  16. So just finished and unfortunately failed, pulled out on a car that I thought was further away, deserved to fail, main disappointment is the fact the rebook is 14th may earliest!! I knew I failed the second it happened and went into whatever mode and only picked up one minor in total 😭 going too get insured on my brother's drz400 and have a ride around the centre, nearly there just got to try again :thumb:

  17. I think the best advice is to not get the short bald examiner :)

A few Enfield spots that instructors will point out (some my own, some copied from various threads online):

    - 'Innova Science Park' (where the test centre is) is all a 20. So turning either way from the test centre you're in a 20:

    https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.674754,-0.018467,3a,75y,278.72h,82.1t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1siC2oF2V7nLNhIsctDtPM1A!2e0

(although it's not completely clear what the speed limit is between the roundabout to the North of the test centre and the entrance to the test centre travelling South, my examiner said it was the same 40 as Mollison Ave but I've also heard of people failing for going above 20 and my instructor thinks it's a 20).

    - at the end of the driveway of the test centre, come to a complete stop and put your foot down, there's a hedge to your right and the examiner thinks it's unsafe to just slow down.

    - at this intersection, you're probably going right so use the right lane if you can. Watch out for cars in the middle lane also going right and note that the lights take turns so if you're allowed to go right (solid green for you) the oncoming traffic is held at a red (which I think is very ambiguous as it's a solid green, not an arrow, so I'm not sure how you're meant to know that everyone else is being held):

    https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.679665,-0.0332224,3a,75y,298.64h,84.8t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sgJ5CRp77jovZaJxfqCsKKA!2e0!7i16384!8i8192

    - right at this spot before the Lidl, the examiner will probably ask you to turn left at the roundabout. Don't indicate left until you're past the entry to the Lidl car park. The examiner always gives the instruction early here to try to catch you out on indicating too soon.

    https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.6834965,-0.0310716,3a,75y,268.72h,80.1t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sE1UwSU6MwkjHl4aHyF9k1g!2e0!7i16384!8i8192

    - as you're driving here by the Sainsbury's, you're probably in traffic in the left lane, keep in mind that if you're going to Cheshunt, you'll need to be in the right lane at the roundabout. You can't see the sign yet as it's too far away but in traffic it helps to position early:

    https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.6869046,-0.0317729,3a,75y,310.86h,89.78t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s-S6_jP198_dN_iklktJ9Nw!2e0!7i16384!8i8192

    - as you leave this roundabout, it's suddenly NSL so get up to dual carriageway speed until the sign at the next roundabout:

    https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.687875,-0.0071,3a,75y,50.72h,79.57t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sI3SBXlPMtn80xJmN3SVrUA!2e0

    - this is the one-way street that they'll ask you to turn right at, so position on the right curb:

    https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.684426,-0.001659,3a,75y,252.43h,86.13t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1s8Ts-RrhlAIaO2W5bt42kNg!2e0

and this one isn't one-way, so position normally as if there's a centre line:

    https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.668893,-0.027992,3a,75y,275.29h,92.48t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1s4pgrXVgzv3wjBBsBiVN4Pw!2e0

    - there's a specific left turn that goes across a bike path; if turning left across a bike path be sure to do a very clear lifesaver over your left shoulder before turning:

    https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.6464299,-0.0365235,3a,75y,302.59h,70.15t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sWKcUvCPxjgKUNi5Uy9vn5Q!2e0!7i16384!8i8192

    - there's also a spot where there's usually traffic from the left and they want you to make a right turn, there's a hashed area with a broken line separating the lanes on the road you're turning into. What they want you to do is move into that hashed area when there's no traffic coming from your right, wait and then continue into your lane when it's then free from your left. I've heard people of people both fail for doing it and for not doing it. I personally would try to wait for it to be clear on both sides before going (and probably get a minor for hesitation). If moving into that area when there's still traffic on the left, I would do it very slowly so it can't be interpreted as trying to cut in.

    - here on Nags Head Rd you reach a church and the road becomes Lea Valley Rd, the road opens up but it's still a 30 (it feels like it should be higher but hasn't changed):

    https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.6470699,-0.0382998,3a,75y,100.21h,74.91t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sBWRn9ZjAG1IxEI9P0hrjww!2e0!7i16384!8i8192

    - this one is mentioned a few times online but I think it's outdated: there used to be an actual Stop sign here:

    https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.6432352,-0.0392689,3a,84.4y,187.45h,74.58t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sDOWbarW_bz9VaHjTwV5Cmg!2e0!7i16384!8i8192

cheers for the links, going to just ride my ride if i mess up ill rebook and go again but Ive got faith! Also I dont know if the bald guy is still there but I had him 5 years ago for my A2 and he passed me :D

  18. Kalms the night before so you get a decent sleep! I suffer with nerves too so these helps.

If nerves give you a gippy tum, just eat stuff like bananas, and avoid too much caffeine as it might make you twitchy(er).

Are you riding down to the test centre or meeting your instructor there? If you have the option to get to the training school earlier and ride down, opt for that, you can ride away all the stupid before your test :P (worked for me anyway).

And simply.... TELL yourself you can do this. You know how to ride, it's no different from your MOD 2 before. You got this!

I've got some rescue remedy on the ready lol and I do normally pop a 200mg caffeine pill to get me going in the morning but think i'll have water, a banana and some rescue remedy and I should be all good :D And we are riding from harlow, my test is super early so probably straight down to the centre and won't get too practice around enfield much but the ride to the centre is around 30-40 mins, so get a lil practice before, I keep thinking please don't give me a terrible route, don't know if they expect me to be a better rider since I'm on a A2 and not starting from scratch :( anywho fingers crossed :D

  19. As the titlesays really, I'm so freaking nervous even though I did my A2 license 5 years ago (am 27 now) I passed mod1 first time again but I fluffed mod 2 last time and passed second time, cam rider re-books are like 230.00 for mod 2 and I'm not minted so really hoping I pass first time :( it's hard for me to get too enfield on my own but i'm practicing on my little 98 rs125 whenever I can, my obs are good and I think my road positioning is decent, any tips for nerves :( no Idea why i'm so nervous, **** whoever decided that A2 holders have to do the exact same tests again after 24, such BS, Also on my mod1 I had to sign my name 3 times because I couldn't make it match my license lol, literally shaking haha and then when I finished mod1 and he told me I passed he said my lack of experience showed on the slow stuff even though in practice I was flying round the figure of 8 and u turns, god I hope I pass, no idea what this thread is for, just need some bikers too talk too since no one in my family cares about bikes :(
