  1. Only a full synthetic with friction reducing properties will do that, i.e. car oil. A full synthetic motorbike specific oil will be fine. That's why Triumph mention it in their manuals. After some light reading, it appears that the important standard to look for is the JASO MA one, the API SH could also refer to cars. However JASO is specifically for bikes. So you shouldn't get clutch slippage with a JASO MA rated oil.
  2. Can you edit the video and blank out your license plate. Since it is illegal, you don't want to make it easy for the police to add your plate to their watch list (or whatever it is they have that makes the cars shout yabba dabba doo on police camera action) Impressive for a 125. How long until it needs rebuilding though?
  3. I doubt it would cost much more, it looks like they've already gone through all the proposal paperwork, it would just be up to the test centres to pick out a bunch of signposted locations and known start points. I doesn't sound stupid to me, it will show of people can navigate and read signs for themselves rather than having a route planned for them, i.e. will they read the one way street sign and not drive down it. If it can improve the standard of driving (I know, big if but at least they're trying) then why do people always argue against it. There are countless posts about car drivers not looking where they are going and not being observant - this test may in some way address that. I know it won't prevent all bad drivers from being unleashed on the road but I can't see how it will hurt. Feel free to explain it to me as I may have missed something blindingly obvious...
  4. If its a fairly modern (09 - 10) Daytona 675 then use the following (from my manual, I've got St3R so we share engines and manuals) Dry Fil: 3.0 litres Oil/Filter Change (I.E. USE THIS ONE): 2.6 litres Oil Change Only: 2.4 litres According to manual: Have engine run for about 5 minutes, turn off and leave for a further 3 minutes for oil to settle. Remove dipstick, wipe it clean then screw back in FULLY. Bike has to be upright (not on side stand). FYI: Oil filter tightened to 10Nm, Drain plug tightened to 25Nm. Use 10W/40 or 15W/50 semi or full synthetic that meets API SH (or higher) AND JASO MA. Start engine and allow to idle for 30 seconds, ensure engine oil pressure light turns off. Turn engine off and recheck oil level. I hope that helps (if not, don't tell me as I don't want to know I've wasted my time typing that up if you've got a 10+ year old daytona powered by 2 gerbils and a limp grey squirrel who's partial to walnut oil)
  5. If its painfully tight then its too tight. Should be snug but not hurt. I'd go for the medium if I were you, you can always put more lining in it or wear something on your head if it gives a bit too much after break in. Have you tried other brands for fit, it may be that Scorpion helmets aren't right for your head. I have this issue with Shark, they just don't sit right on my bonce. What was the other option from the title: how to decide between S&M and ... ? On second thoughts, I'm not sure I want to know, it might be too kinky
  6. The simple solutions are always the best! EDIT: or keep your bike gloves on while you lock it up
  7. I'm sure for impacts to the top of the head, they are safe (if not legal for this country, that's your choice though). If you crash and skid on your front then you are going to have serious face injuries: shattered jaw, shattered teeth, skin on nose worn off or nose ripped off, cheeks worn down/off (since cheeks are fleshy , that's for the benefit of a different topic). Full face offers more protection and yes, I am a little warped in the head to think about all that then think about what's for dinner, hmmm ham sandwiches maybe. I do like the look of the Nexx X60 Vintage Blue Magnetic White though, wouldn't buy one as I like my chin and nose, but it does look "reeeal purdy" Almost forgot, unless you have something covering your face, you'll be eating flies wherever you go, yummy!
  8. I concur. However most people (everyone bar you) have cheeks made of flesh that sit above the part of the skull called a cheek bone
  9. Surely its the young ones that need parents, the elders should be able to dress themselves by now and make their own food? I think you are telling lies! In answer to your question, yeah.
  10. You've got multiple mothers and fathers? How did that happen and who do you share them with? Do you charge for this or is it a charitable thing?
  11. What kind of freak are you? Cheeks are made of flesh not bone. You sound like the thing from the fantastic four "It's clobbering time..."
  12. Does anyone know any places that will let you take helmets out on a test ride? I really like my current helmet but the wind noise was a bit of a shock. Luckily my earplugs are really good.
  13. Just to make sure, you aren't buying it to wear in this country are you? DOT approved is only for America, you need the ACU approved for over here. I think its going to be tough to find a stockist as most helmet buyers will want it to be UK legal.
  14. Try the helmet on (everyone will tell you that as the fit of the helmet is key). Caberg get good SHARP ratings but I tried one on and it was really scratchy and uncomfortable. Have a search for a local stockist for all of the gear you want and try it on and then ask them to price match. That way if they refuse you can walk out of the store without buying but also without taking the p*ss, at least you gave them a chance of your business... My mate's got RST textiles and likes them, they seem like a pretty decent middle of the road brand. I've used Renapur on my leathers to give them a slight water resistance. I'm a fair weather rider but its just in case I get caught out in a rain shower, that way I won't have to suffer damp leathers.
  15. hmmm, the negative comments are all "in my opinion" and "a bloke said", nothing that actually says yes I've got one and here's why you should or shouldn't buy one... Nothing wrong with airing your opinion mind. It would just be nice for an owner to confirm it. The airbag will most likely have been tested in crash scenarios. Its not in Scorpion's interest to sell something that fails and kills riders, can you imagine the MCN article. If you think about your helmet, its nothing more than a hard, brittle shell covering a polystyrene layer wrapped in cloth to make if comfy. If that can survive a fall then a bag filled with air should manage as long as it can withstand a reasonable amount of pressure. Oh and Reebok pump came back with pump 2.0 about 5 years ago. I have a pair and they are unbelievably comfortable, best trainers I've ever owned. Looks like they've stopped selling them again. If I'd have known, I'd have stock piled while they were still for sale.
  16. Depends upon the training company. I started at 9am on mine, finished 3:30pm.
  17. What, none of you have heard of Yoshikawa???
  18. Although dark helmets look a bit mean and moody, I prefer to go with something thats light, bright and stands out. My current helmet is mainly white with a bit of black graphic (Arai Chaser Samurai). There are even fluoro ones but thats a step too far for me, however I would go with bright orange if I could find a decent one with a good fit. Anyway, something to think about, maybe go for something bright that stands out which then adds to you visibility... or just go for the dark one that makes you look like a bad mother f*****
  19. Haha, no not on purpose, I like the forum but not that much that I'm prepared to crash test products for you guys and gals.
  20. If your serious about getting a bike then best to get all the gear. Boots, pants, jacket, gloves and of course a helmet. Back protection is also recommended if you can afford it, the separate protectors that you strap on to yourself are more comfy and look to offer more protection than the jacket inserts, but thats my opinion, not backed up with lab results. I started out with alpinestars textiles and tested them in a low speed crash. They did ok bu leathers are better. If you want textiles maye have a look at the RSTs as they look good and are a bit cheaper than the fancy A* label, unless your a bit of a label whore like me
  21. My Alpinestars jacket says it was made in Romania, I guess that makes it a premium one Some guy on ebay is doing icon leathers for around £250. The people on here with icon leathers speak quite highly of them. Worth a look... EDIT: I meant Ixon not Icon.
  22. The real answer is no, jeans would rip apart like tissue paper as you slide down the road and your skin would get nice and intimate with the road surface. Road rash I believe they call it. Apparently its painful. 2 choices: 1. take the risk and wear jeans but for the love of all things holy don't fall off, 2. get better protection than jeans. Its your skin, you decide if the risk is worth it. As long as you don't crash you could do the cbt in shorts, I really wouldn't recommend it but there's nothing stopping you. Good luck with the CBT, I sincerely hope you don't fall off so this all becomes a mute point.
  23. Yeah, Dovi (I can't spell his full name either ) does seem to be putting in some good races and embarrassing Pedrosa. It'll be nice to see Stoner on something that's reliable and isn't made just for him. See if he is the real deal. Everything I've heard and seen from him means with a good bike under him, Lorenzo and Rossi won't be the best in the paddock, Stoner will. I can then return to booing him rather than just ignoring him as an also ran.
  24. It wouldn't surprise me if they just resprayed Rossi's bike in the monster livery and gave it to Ben. Yamaha must be concerned that the last act of Rossi's career will be to get an Italian racer on an Italian bike to the number 1 spot. Rossi hasn't got many more years in him. Lorenzo is going to have to be Yamaha's number 1 but Spies will be their number 2, someone to use in negotiations to say to Jorge that he can be replaced if push comes to shove. This season should still have some interesting races in it but the real interesting times will come at the end of the season when everyone's contracts are up. I'm excited about this already, hopefully everything will be mixed up a bit and we'll get to see Rossi on a Ducati, Spies on the real Yamaha and Stoner on a Honda. Then 2011 will be really good!
  25. That Tech 3 bike he's on is the best non-factory bike in the paddock, him and Edwards should be right on the tail of the Hondas and Ducatis every race. Tech 3 is so well supported by Yamaha it might as well be a factory team. He never knew the circuits in WSB. Why aren't you in work? Why does my tax money go towards your holidays? You get more time off than teachers...
