1. I can vouch for Delkevic Got a Carbon Fibre back box on mine, left the baffles in and it went from sounding like a p***ed off typewriter to a fart in a long tunnel. Subtle enough to not wake the neighbours but loud enough people in traffic can hear me comming
2. Thank you, and I agree with you so much. I'm not a massive fan of a lot of the stickers but have just been riding it as it is but now is my chance to change all that. The DC stickers on the wheel will definitely be got rid of, and the new fairing looks like a lot of the horrid decals are gone. I've got no interest in motorsport whatsoever but time and time again I get guys going "Rossi fan ay? not a great weekend for him....". You're right, the rust is in all hard to reach areas which I can only presume is where the previous owner had it sat outside and the rain has collected. I'm going to look into this Nickel plating kit now, its a great idea and something I hadn't considered. I was just going to sand, primer and spray but that's a great idea! I'm presuming the rust has to come off first, but is it similar anodising? I'm going to take a look on google now. I did also like the twin round ones, I prefer them to a lot of the lights on offer and imagine these are a straight swap.
3. Id say go for it! I find it makes a massive difference, got a blacked out one on my thundercat
4. ...yes if I can find time. but yes. yes I will find time. Hoggs If there is anything I can do to help let me know!
5. Sorry to hear about the off! I fitted those exact ones last night and am really impressed! [strikeout]Luckily you've got the in-line resistors already due to having LED lights already so its really easy to do.[/strikeout] Sorry, I initially read the post wrong On closer inspection, I just had the indicator ones for £8.99 (Amazon made the £7.99 at checkout) and was very dubious as it was cheap and had no reviews but I'm very glad i went for them https://www.themotorbikeforum.co.uk/download/file.php?mode=view&id=29498
6. Hi guys and girls, plans are a bit up in the air at the moment for what to do with my bike so i thought rather than clogging up other peoples threads and asking noddy questions, I would keep it all in one place and start a thread on this section. My bike is a 1998 Yamaha Thundercat and to me is really starting to look 21 years old. I was enjoying it as it left the factory until my missus reversed into it which made me think it was time for a change. Upon joining this forum, my plan was to street fighter it but after talking with some of the members I have decided to get some new fairings and modernise it a bit. The previous owner had it sat outside so the more I look, the more rust I find. My plan currently is to take it to bits whilst it's winter, get rid of all these areas of rust and generally give it a bit of a tidy up. My main gripe is the back end. The tail light is massive and sticks out like a dogs lipstick and all of the aftermarket lights I have found look horrible. I like the look of a 600RR tail light conversion which is on the cards over the next few weeks. This will involve a tail tuck which I have found a guide for but is no longer available but I'm sure I can figure it out. Last night I fitted some LED indicators to the rear which has already made me feel happier about the tail but it is now begging for a new brake light in my eyes. I have taken the bike out this morning, (probably for the last time this year) and this has thrown up some problems. Either the clutch is slipping, or there's a gear box issue but the bike was very "easy" to slot into gear. I have a nice strong bite and if anything it's easier to ride but it doesn't feel right. I've also lost 5PSI from the rear tyre overnight so a new tyre maybe on the cards and also the forks seem to click when coming to a complete stop. I've had the fork seals done a few months back so I'm going to ask the guy who did them to take a look. Currents mods are: Braided Brake lines Delkevic carbon fibre exhaust LED rear indicatiors Smoked LED front indicators Heres some photo's of it as it is from the moment i picked it up to this morning,
7. Just fitted a new set of LED indicators on the rear. £8.99 on Amazon with no reviews but I'm a gambling man and it payed off! Luckily the last set were LED so the resistors where already fitted. Just a case of plug and play!
8. haha definitely a wise move! Last night I purchased some LED indicators and have been looking at a 600RR tail light. I don't like the way the YZF's tail light sticks out like a dogs lipstick. the 600RR conversion looks fairly simple with a tail tuck and modernises the back I think.
9. Tell me about it Karma is a great thing though, the next day she reversed into the lampost outside our house. Made my week
10. Excuse the black sacks as well, they are the kids christmas presents disguised as rubbish
11. Thank you so much everyone for your valued opinions! (I don't think I've ever said that without being sarcastic before). Bob, this is what my main worry is. I don't want to make it look tacky, but that one in your picture is lovely! I've been out to the garage tonight and sat mulling over it and have decided that you guys are right. Six30 You're right, a re-furb is deffinately in order and a little bit of modernising. This is how it looks currently, but aside from the new plastics I will be ordering I think it needs a more modern rear light, decent scrub and alot of rust removal and painting, I think some less chunky mirrors as well? https://www.themotorbikeforum.co.uk/download/file.php?mode=view&id=29441 https://www.themotorbikeforum.co.uk/download/file.php?mode=view&id=29442 https://www.themotorbikeforum.co.uk/download/file.php?mode=view&id=29443 https://www.themotorbikeforum.co.uk/download/file.php?mode=view&id=29444
12. Thank you, I'm starting to feel the same way. When I joined I was fully ready to start stripping and cutting but now I'm thinking of just fixing it up enjoying it as it is
13. Hi guys, Sorry if this has been covered aleady. I did have a little look back but the answer wasn't too clear. Is there another challenge going ahead next year? I'm assuming there is, I have only joined yesterday and would love to take part but I think I'm better holding off until the next one Thank you! Q
14. Hi guys and girls, I'm after a bit of advice please. I currently ride a YZF600R which is perfect for me. I started on a GS-R750 and found it too bulky, heavy etc. I used to go miles out of my way to avoid a 3rd exit on a roundabout. The Thundercat was recommended to me as I needed something that was comfortable enough to do the commute to work and back, but also sporty enough to aid my mid life crisis and make me think I look younger and more down with the kids. I love the T-Cat, its so much more comfortable and easier to ride, I find I literally just have to think of a corner and I've gone round it. The bike seems a lot more flowing and forgiving and just generally more "me". My wonderful missus brought a new car in Feb this year with a reversing camera yet decided no to look into it whilst she reversed into the Cat. Not too much damage as I brought it with crash bungs fitted but enough to make me loose heart in it. I've found new fairings from China for around £500 which initially I had no faith on, but after talking to some of the guys on my welcome post, they may not be all that bad. One choice is to purchase and fit these but this is only half the problem. The mirror and stalk need replacing, bar ends, some metal ball has snapped off the foot peg (I think, not the end of the world but its an issue none the less) and a few other small problems. I also think the bike is starting to look 20+ years old which it is, so this could be my chance to make it fully custom and hide its age a little bit. My main trial for thought at the minute is to street fighter it. Custom headlight, new dials, bar-risers and yolks, straight bar, aftermarket tail light and that's pretty much all I need to buy. The rest just seems to be paining, stripping, re-routing cables, cutting and removing plastics! When it comes to colour schemes, I have seen a lovely example that had a chromed frame and a House of Kolour Candy Red tank, tail, trim and although it looked the dogs swingers, would be expensive and I'm not sure I trust myself not to drop it. My current idea is to strip it all right back to the frame, go with Matt/Satin black and some Neon/Lime green highlights. Very small bits though, just things like the wheels, maybe a strip along the sides of the tank. Can anyone suggest any ideas or give me their thoughts please? Winter is heavily upon us down south so the garage whilst I do the work seems the smart place for the bike to stay. MY main concern is that I will be sacrificing the handling which I have come to love, and that I will be turning the bike back into the GS-R which I didn't enjoy. That being said, I Imagine the fairings only really come into play on fast road/motorway which I rarely do. Thanks in advance, Q
