  1. Just bought a 96 cbr600ft.

Can anyone explain what it sounds like?

I've got a sound at lower revs that goes away on accelerating. And comes back on backing off the throttle.

To me it sounds tinny like a 2 stroke exhaust.

    Cheers

  2. I've had my car licence a few years now.Always wanted a bike but listened to family members too much - about how dangerous bikes are.

Not any more, I've not long passed my cbt and the wife passed hers yesterday.

It's sooooo much easier with an understanding wife !!

  3. Did my theory test yesterday morning - I passed .

I bought the book and hazard perception dvd. Practised dvd every night.

    They really helped.

After my experience with my CBT I decided to change companies.

I've got to say I wish i'd gone to this company first - Camrider Peterborough

Trainers are very welcoming very upbeat and love bikes.

I went for an assessment session this morning - was only supposed to last half an hour .

I was there for almost 3 times that.

They got me to all the parts of the mod 1 which i'd never done - this was only my second time on a geared 125.

Then the trainer let me have a go on a 500cc .

What a difference - like chalk and cheese from a 125.

Felt so stable and smooth to ride even a slow speeds - I was in a car park !

    I absolutely loved it .

I'm going to sort out dates for my 5 day course on Monday.

I'm glad I gave the das a second chance.

  4. I had read about gear changing on a motorcycle .

At the CBT i just could n't get my head around where neutral was - seem stupid now i think about it.

    This is what i'd do

    Down first - easy

    Up second - ok?

Then in my head i'm thinking down one is neutral ? so i'd go down two for first !

Thats what I was doing wrong .

The instructor said, before the above , think about the gears like holding your hand in front of you (top of hand to your face)

    Thumb is first

    Gap is neutral

    first finger 1st

    2nd finger 2nd

    and so on .

Thats what confused me I think , prob did n't help I was nervous (first time sat on a bike)

I'm sure I've got it now. It was the neutral first thing.

I could get the clutch and when i did change to the right gear It was ok.

    Cheers

  5. Passed my cbt ! :D

Instructor talked me out of doing my DAS.

I ended up on a twist and go scooter - its all in the my cbt experience thread.

So the plans have changed - I'm now going to use the money I've saved to buy a 125 to gain experience on and figure out the gears.

    Then do my test later.

    thanks for your input folks.

  6. I passed my cbt yesterday.

At the start of the day I was going down the DAS route about 2hrs in I was n't.

Day started off well just two of us on cbt training- myself and a young lady.

A couple of hours of safety chat - road positioning etc

Then the exciting bit my first time on a bike - they gave me a yamaha sr125 - I've got to admit was a bit small for me i think, I'm 6ft.

Went over checks on the bikes.

I've never used gears on a bike. So he quickly explained Down for first up for second .

Tried for about 20 mins to sort out the biting point - finally started to pull off ok. Then change to second and back to first on his mark.

Well i completely lost what gear I was in. I'm still confused even now about the gearing.

A big downer was when he said we'll be here till 5pm with you on that and asked me if i'd go on a twist and go scooter.

I quickly said yes to get it over with. He did say i could complete my cbt on the scooter then buy a geared bike to practise on.

    Makes sense I suppose.

The usual turning left, right and braking excercises and it's off on the road !!!!!!!! Scary or what !

I'm a car driver since I was 17 but I was nervous - First thing he said was 30 mph please not kmh !!

Rode about quiet streets then did the u turn excercise and braking. Then turning excercises over and over.

I was loving it even on the scooter - what a thrill riding down the road at 30 feeling like it s 60 !

Back to the training room and it was time to get the certificate.

Feeling great today- I'm now going to get myself a 125 and build up to a big bike and gain experience

  7. I've done a fair bit of research on various forums and alot of people say that riding bigger engined bikes are more steady on the road than 125s . I was going to do my CBT and ride a 125 for a while then do my DAS. I'm unsure what to do now . I'm not the smallest guy in the world and am thinking I should do my das as the bigger bike would be better for me. Although i have no biking experience at all.

    What's your opinions?

Can anyone recommend a training company in Peterborough - I've looked at a few - prices seem to vary and to whats included.

    Thanks

    Jase
